Was there a candidate that you hoped was going to run for governor? Kamala?
I want to make it clear that I have always liked Xavier Becerra, so it's not like I settled for him. I wrote about his potential back in 2016 or 2018, when he was the state Attorney General, well before President Biden picked him for his Cabinet.
When the election cycle began, I was supporting Eleni Kounalakis, who has been Lieutenant Governor throughout both of Governor Newsom's terms. She jumped in the race very early and quickly racked up endorsements and fundraising (she's always been a wizard when it comes to raising money for Democrats in California). There was some thought that she was a placeholder for Kamala, but Eleni dropped out before Kamala decided against running and focused on running for state treasurer instead. I thought Lt. Gov. Kounalakis had a good shot at actually advancing to the general election and the Governor's office. She's obviously way more plugged in to state Democratic politics than I am, so she clearly saw something I didn't see, but I thought she was the best bet since she had established herself so strongly early on within the big field of candidates that continued to grow.
If I could anoint a candidate, however, it would be Buffy Wicks. She represents parts of the East Bay in the State Assembly, but I got to know her in 2007-2008 during the first Obama campaign. We somehow survived one of the first marathon "Camp Obama" sessions at the Longshoreman's Hall in San Francisco over a weekend in August 2007. She's also originally from the Sacramento-area (like me, Becerra, and Kounalakis!), and I just think she's a superstar. Buffy's a fighter -- she started as a scrappy community organizer and ended up working for the President of the United States with an office in the White House. Now she's serving in the legislature (still scrappy) and I think she'd be excellent as Governor or even as a Mayor.
Smilin' McCain
Palin’s teenage daughter being pregnant was what made me vote for Obama.

Whites really think people being uncomfortable with seeing their genitals in public is oppression. Like literally the only people I’ve seen advocating for kink to be shown to children are white, really makes you think lol.
Interesting angle to your jib there, especially considering that I specifically said I didn't care about people who kept their underwear on. And again with the whole making a racially based argument on anon instead of putting in the minimal effort to make a sockpuppet of color 🙄
Did you know that the high Black voter turnout in the 2008 election was considered a contributing factor in the success of anti-gay referendums?
