2021 Recommendations - a list of things I’ve been enjoying this year ✨🎶📚🎞🎨✨
a variety of songs/movies/shows/books/podcasts/docs/etc. I really like(d) investing my time in. gonna update this baby as I feel like it xoxo, it is under the cut!
- Murder Among the Mormons (3-episode crime documentary on Netflix. About mysterious bombings in Salt Lake City, the Mormon Church’s potential involvement...)
- Allen v. Farrow (4-episode documentary on HBO/HBOMax. About W*ody A*len’s sexual abuse/pedophilia and how Mia Farrow’s daughter Dylan has coped through the years. ⚠️Graphic descriptions⚠️)
- I Care A Lot (movie on Netflix. A caseworker/caregiver takes advantage of her elderly wards to con them out of money/possessions, but has her hands full with her latest target. LGBTQ+ relationship, a lot of violence/fighting.)
- The Ripper (4-episode crime documentary on Netflix. NOT Jack the Ripper—focused on the Yorkshire Ripper of the 1970s. ⚠️Graphic accounts, chilling audio⚠️)
- Criminal Minds (15-season crime show w/seasons 1-12 on Netflix and 13-15 on Hulu. Follows the Behavioral Analysis Unit of the FBI. Many heavy episodes, but so good. A classic tbh!)
- Soul (Disney/Pixar movie on Disney+. Like most Pixar movies, it’s great and will likely make you feel all the feelings. Love the visuals and the muuuuusic, especially!)
- Unlocking Us with Brené Brown (Podcast I listen to via Spotify, but probably available elsewhere, too. Self-help/relationship themes, and just generally a calming listen.)
- You’re Wrong About (Podcast via Spotify, other podcast apps. Interesting topics and no need for chronology—can jump around to subjects of interest. Light yet informative.)
- The Mole Agent (Oscar-nominated Chilean documentary on Hulu. A heartwarming and heartbreaking piece that follows an elderly man who goes undercover in a nursing home to see if elder abuse is occurring. It is poignant and I find it to be an important look at life as an elderly person in a care center.)
- Grit by Angela Duckworth (nonfiction book detailing the author’s studies on, and general knowledge of, grit. Easy to read—her voice is engaging and strong. It’s motivating and a great read!)
