im on "Homer, Nebraska" right now and nines doing the phone call with nancy and a thing that really stuck out for me is the fact that nine can laugh. all previous communication (i think) was either human-human or spacething-spacething, (or also i guess human-automobile) so it could be assumed that humans are speaking to each other and spacethings are kinda texting each other, but then nine and ten make the call to nancy and at one point nine's dialogue says "[laughs]" implying that they have some sort of voice. i would explain this as through their residual memory they were able to make an approximation of human speech output and transmitted it as live audio data. but also, the first communication from ten and juice to earth was, assumedly, text "FART". this i think would just be sending out ascii or utf-8 data.
this makes me think of two things:
1) what would their (nine, juice, ten, etc.) accents be like? we know juice is french, but nothing about his dialogue other than them stating that he was made in france makes him sound french. and, like, if i understand correctly, they would be receiving people from speaking all around the world, so hypothetically they could know a decent amount of languages and maybe have something that could be called a "neutral" accent, but also it is made clear that the spacethings (i dont wanna say probe btw cause idk if thats how you would classify juice and hubble is a telescope, unless that also counts as a probe) actively make decisions on how they outwardly present (e.g. gender and texting style). in the case that they actively chose their accents, no further questions cause i already gotta do this when learning spanish.
2) could they have like a computer accent? because utf-8 has only been around for so long, so would ten and nine use ascii (also because they are american) and juice and hubble use utf-8? i could see maybe ten using utf-8, especially because of the quantum handwaving meaning that memory isnt really an issue, but nine's only been conscious for a relatively short time. i think nine could know about utf-8's existence and how to interpret it, but idk if they would talk in it. maybe did ten have to switch communications methods when first being contacted by nine? there could have been a moment where nine was like "holy shit i understand you but you dont talk like me what is that". also, with the assumption that their phone calls are just transmitting audio data, what is the audio quality like? do they have audio encoding accents? i wanna say yes to all because it makes it more fun.
