1703. Mart. - den 22. - Poln. Contribution vom Rauch. - den 23sten Sochazovv Aber die Wahl war uns nicht gelassen, dahero setzte man sich bald wieder auf, und kame um die Abend-Zeit bei Zaniky an, welches bereits nebst einem ziemlichen District, den wir passiret, unter Königlich Schwedischer Contribution stunde, wie dann erst vor einigen Tagen eine Schwedische Parthey, und so weiter biß 4 Meil gegen Thorn von dem Rauch 36 Timpff oder 6 Species Thaler, item Heu und Stroh eingezogen und exequirt. Diese Art der Contribution von dem Rauchfang, welche sie collectam fumalem, oder Podymne nennen, ist ehemahlen in dem Krieg mit Schweden ersonnen, und von jedem Haus so wohl in Städten als Dörffern und Höfen, ausgenommen der Edlen und geistlichen Häusern aufgeleget worden, deren sie sich nach der Zeit, und auch damahls für sich wieder bedienten. Uns fieng es an nach und nach leichter zu werden, weilen wir nicht viel von Pohlnischen Partheyen, mehr aber von Schwedischen Partheyen hörten, mithin uns die Hoffnung machten, es würden jene sich vor diesen so nahe nicht sehen lassen, diese aber uns bald in Schutz nehmen, und dahin begleiten, wo der Printz hinzureysen gedachten, welches auch erfolget, indem uns den 23sten Martij eine Schwedische Parthey begegnete, von deren wir aber Anfangs uns nichts Guts versahen, weilen wir sie von Ferne nicht erkennen konnten, jedoch bald erfreuet wurden, da sie uns näher kamen, und versichert wurden, daß wir ohne Anstoß fortreysen könten, weil sich nirgends nichts feindliches sehen liesse, wie wir dann auch glücklich fortreyseten, und zu Sockazovv, einem Pohlnischen Städtlen, worinnen Schwedische Dragoner in Besatzung lagen, ankamen.

But the choice wasn't left to us, therefore one soon mounted back up again, and arrived around evening at Zaniky, which was already, next to quite some area, which we had passed, subject to Royal Swedish contribution, as then just a few days prior a Swedish party, and so on until 4 miles towards Thorn had seized and collected from the smoke 36 Timpfs or 6 species Thalers, as well as hay and straw. This type of contribution of the hearths, which they call collectam fumalem, or Podymne, was erstwhile devised in the war with Sweden, and was imposed on every house in the towns as well as villages and farms, except for the noble and clerical houses, which they now after the time, and at the time then used for themselves again. It started to get more and more easy for us because we didn’t hear much about Polish parties, but more about Swedish parties, therefore raised our hopes that those would not show themselves so close before these, these however would soon take us into their protection, and escort us there, where the Prince intended to travel to, which indeed happened, as on the 23rd March a Swedish party encountered us, of which we didn’t expect anything good at first, because we couldn’t recognise them from afar, however were soon delighted, because they came closer to us, and were ensured that we could continue our journey without umbrage, because nowhere nothing adversarial was showing itself, as we then travelled fortunately on, and arrived in Sockazovv, a small Polish town, wherein Swedish dragoons laid in garrison.
