Bobby has been going out on Saturday nights with Elsa and Eloise for 60 years. Marrying Elsa meant planning events shared with Eloise. It was an odd arrangement, but it worked. At first, everyone assumed Eloise would get married and the weekly diner dates would stop, but that didn't happen. Now it would feel like a punishment if Eloise wasn't joining them every week. He figured he loved her as much as he loved Elsa. Joaquin came to the diner because his cousin vouched for him. The diner's been a good job for him -- a lot of friends, decent customers who understand tipping, and his shifts have been manageable. He wants to leave, though, because he has an opportunity to develop a worker cooperative for day laborers, and that's work he's passionate about. Harrison was the sweetest man in their friend group, and hanging out with him in a group or a one-on-one evening with him would be lovely, but his parties... no. Irma learned to quilt from her father's older sister. She set it aside for a few years after her first children were born, but by the time her youngest came, she was back at it with a vengeance. She has taught her daughters, her daughters-in-law, one son-in-law, and all of her grandchildren. Sometimes, when she works in public, she hopes younger women will talk to her, ask her for guidance and instruction. It happens occasionally, and it pleases her to know the craft goes on.
