Irma learned to quilt from her father's older sister. She set it aside for a few years after her first children were born, but by the time her youngest came, she was back at it with a vengeance. She has taught her daughters, her daughters-in-law, one son-in-law, and all of her grandchildren. Sometimes, when she works in public, she hopes younger women will talk to her, ask her for guidance and instruction. It happens occasionally, and it pleases her to know the craft goes on. Mostly, she just likes working on her projects, feeling the breeze as she works, making mental notes for what she'll work on next. 6:04pm #NewYorkCity #USA “It's Always a Good Time for Quilting” by @girlgriot as part of #24hourproject #24hourproject2022 #24hr22 #24hr22_NewYorkCity #24hr22_BklynStacie #24hr22_GirlGriot #stories For the 2022 edition, #24HrPrj is supporting climate action and the work of Yonton Te in Mexico, fighting for ecological and social transformation.
