For some the years have gone by quickly. Others can recount the many changes that have occurred over the last 25 years. But for all, 25 years reflects a significant degree of dedication, accomplishment, and serious work. This week we held the Buffalo State luncheon to recognize this year’s especially large group of 32 employees.
With Interim Provost James Mayrose honoring Anthony Hotchkiss of Engineering Technology for 25 years of service.
These faculty and staff members joined Buffalo State during the 1993–1994 academic year, a memorable year indeed for those who joined our community. Thinking back to 1993, they remember feeling the anticipation of a new job, the excitement of becoming a Bengal, and beginning their journey at Buffalo State. Jurassic Park was released in 1993, reminding us that things actually are larger than they appear in side mirrors. Sleepless in Seattle was also a hit in the theaters, and Bill Clinton was sworn in as president of the United States. So if those who were recognized are like me, they remember that year as a good year not only because they started their careers here, but also for the many projects they have completed, tasks they have accomplished, and memories, friendships, and community connections they have formed during the last quarter century.

Those who were here 25 years ago have had the pleasure of seeing many amazing staff members join our community and have enjoyed watching their growth over the last two decades. They have collectively contributed more than 800 years to Buffalo State, and we are better for their presence.

Looking back on 1992, we can say it was a very good year. This week we stopped to celebrate 30 individuals who have served Buffalo State College or the SUNY family for 25 years, joining us in 1992. These individuals have seen many changes over the last 25 years, but some things have remained the same. We continue to be committed to helping students reach for the stars, armed with a degree and prepared to make their mark on the world.
The lunch kicks off with remarks from Kate Conway-Turner
Recently I had the opportunity to talk with a few alumni from the ’90s, and they expressed how many changes had occurred at Buffalo State. Yet our mission continues to be very familiar. We have seen programmatic growth, changes in leadership, expansion and renovation of buildings, but we continue to believe in the special nature of an excellent public education at an affordable price.
Provost Melanie Perreault (left) and Kate Conway-Turner (right) mark the occasion with Carol Townsend, associate professor, Design
Joaquin Carbonara, professor, Mathematics, with Perreault and Conway-Turner
Today I take this opportunity to salute the men and women who have contributed 25 years of their service to Buffalo State. The campus community deeply appreciates the contributions you have made to advance the goals of our institution and the aspirations of our students.
