Radiated Love
Date : 3 March 2020
Duration : 38 minutes at 9:40 pm
Depth : Written immediately after the session -
‘He got this ! This world with all its problems are mere subsets within Him. There is no need for any one to lose faith, really. This world is alright.
These days some very calming, soothing feelings come over me when I meditate. There is nothing out of place. Everything is moving towards the love He is radiating.
The breath disappeared for good. I should get this measured in real time. It will be worth knowing exactly what is the duration of the longest wait for my breath to move. It is so relaxing.’
March 3, 2020 - Day 257
I’m loving the gradient on these books, I’m sure it won’t be metaphorically resonant at all!
sources/interesting finds
guess who learned caridina japonica is an long outdated name today! will make sure to tag posts correctly from now on.
not a lot of development with the mommas today, eggs are looking a bit greenish and my 3rd female isnt even saddled yet.
i want to compile some of the resources i’ve been using and extract some interesting information from them:
https://www.plantedtank.net/forums/88-shrimp-other-invertebrates/151575-attempting-breed-amanos.html
from this thread i think the most notable thing is the size of zoes - there head size is about 250 microns, and they tend to only be able to feed on things in the 15-100 micron range. this rules out a lot of the green water algae, something that people tend to use a lot in rearing inverts. diatoms (of which i have plenty) and various crushed foods like spirulina flakes seem to be a good option in this case. i also agree with the sentiment of wanting some sort of cycled system or biological filtration system in place such as live sand as this thread suggests, just hopefully won’t run into issues of predation on the zoes if i go that route. other feeding suggestions include phytoplankton (live or powder) and golden pearls.

this thread actually links to a couple of really helpful articles on the subject. unfortunately one of the sites is old but using the wayback machine works. this particular person fed 2x daily w/ liquizell, a European liquid based food primarily used to feed artemia. i think it’s made of crushed or liquidized phytoplankton, and a coral type food might be able to work (though again may be way too small for the zoes). this particular individual managed to raise over 300 fry from one shrimp

this site was initially only in french but was translated due to demand. this person grew phytoplankton - D. salina - inside the tank. d salina is notably 16-24 microns in size, making it optimal for the zoes size. they experienced best results w/ a 24 hour light, and in this case just incandescent light was sufficient. they had about a 50% survival rate on the second run with about 40 babies.

this is the site that requires use of the wayback machine:

he had over 80 postlarvae shrimp survive with his method. he had best results with frequent and small water changes. he fed about 5 times per day with brewers yeast, greenwater/chlorella (which i think might be way to small for them to eat), Baby Star II (50-100 microns) and golden pearls (50-100 microns). he had the most success with the golden pearls. this aligns well w/ the observation that they can subsist well off of food in the 15-100 micron range. he concluded that due to the increased feeding and salinity, that his shrimp metamorphosed much sooner (30-60 days) than other tests (80-90 days) he lost about 50-75% of shrimp to the metamorphosis, which has notably been an issue for others as well.

the last is this vid. this guy swears up and down he’s raised hundreds of amanos this way - he doesn’t supplement with feeding, and has very little algae in his tank. he just runs a light 24/7 to sort of facilitate a bit of diatom growth, thats about it. im wondering if his shrimp are a little stunted because of this, but it seems like he’s been really successful thus far.
pretty consistently in these results, the best salinity is above 20ppt and usually around 34ppt. additionally, light must be kept on 24/7.
i’m considering using the diatoms from my other tanks right now to assist with feeding and supplement possibly with spirulina/chlorella/etc powder. i don’t want to end up spending TOO much on food but i also want to have a good chance of raising babies. i have a lot of fish food that i can just grind into small pieces for them so i figure that should work as well. additionally, multiple people reported that they are feeding well if they have an “orange tint” and remarkably change in size.
hopefully with the water from my cycled tank and some of the biological filter media thrown in i will be able to have the tank cycled from the get go. i dont expect these guys to be able to produce Too much ammonia but it’s best to be on the safe side!
