Protecting a nuclear carrier....

          ....on the other side if the world....

                    ....in potentially dangerous waters....

BAHRAIN (October 7, 2020) -- Chief Boatswain’s Mate Jennifer Kwiatkowski, USN, (top photo), stands security watch aboard a Mark VI patrol boat during an escort of United States Navy nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Nimitz (CVN 68) through the crowded and confining Gulf of Bahrain....inbound for a scheduled maintenance and logistics visit.

The supercarrier is in the midst of a lengthy deployment to the region....months out of it’s homeport near Seattle, WA....8,000 miles (13,000 km) away.

Bahrain is located at the tip of the red arrow....in the heart of an ever-volatile part of the world.

Closer-in....often-hostile Iran is just across the Persian Gulf (shoreline to the upper right, 100 miles/160 km away)....close allies with the United States (and most of the world) a half-century ago....but in recent decades, a volatile and dangerous pariah to many....
