Axel grips the sheets tightly as he tries to steady his breathing, his heart so loud in his ears he can barely hear the soft snoring of Michael from the other side of the room.

He reminds himself that it's not real, he's okay, and he is far too old to be waking up in the middle of the night from night terrors — he just needs his body to understand that too.

He rolls over, staring at Michael, sound asleep with a blanket pulled up just past his stomach and an arm hanging slightly off the bed; the twin sized mattresses of hotel rooms never seem to fully contain him. He sits up for a moment and hesitates, before slowly tiptoing off his bed and into Michael's.

Michael barely stirs as Axel inserts himself into the small empty space beside him, slotting perfectly under his arm and laying his head on his chest, hoping the rhythmic sound of his teammate's breathing will be enough to finally make him feel safe again, to let him drift back off to sleep.
