here have this
Anything about theses holy artifacts: Peace Bell, Wood Mat, Golden Ink Pot, and Thieve's Glove? Also, what's the swirly thing on all the holy artifacts (aside from the fire and water tablets)?
Bells are often attached to amulets such as omamori since the sound is believed to ward off demons.
The Wood Mat actually appears to be a traditional kind of pillow/head rest. I can’t remember what they’re called, but they look like this (Wood Mat is on right for comparison).
The thing sticking out of the side is a tassel.
I don’t think the Golden Ink Pot or the Thief’s Glove are anything more than what they sound like, made just to fill a role in the game.
As for the swirlies, I think they’re stated somewhere in the game to be a divine mark. There’s no external significance to them, but within Okami they designate things imbued with divine power.
Why did they make Tsukiyomi be a sword? Wasn't Tsukiyomi the moon god?
Tsukuyomi is indeed the god of the moon, and a brother of Amaterasu and Susano-o, but the decision to name the sword after him is probably arbitrary, a way to reference Tsukuyomi since he isn’t included in the game as a character. Probably that’s also why the sword has a strong connection to the moon, but it’s unclear how that decision came about.
Anything about Astroidean from Okamiden?
I think it's just a giant starfish monster. In Japanese it's called "starfish demon" (海星鬼). The only particularly special thing I can think to say about it is that its scales resemble a traditional Japanese wave design based on concentric circles.
I love this blog! Also, is Waka from mythology? Or is he from Japanese History?
Thank you!
He's sort of a mix of both. He definitely existed, but some of the stories about him, especially in his youth, probably aren't true. I have a full post on him here.
ten thousand thirty eight thumbs up for this blog. ^_^ Also, can you tell me about Kagu from Okamiden? And please explain where the developers got the idea for the Mikos. thanx!
Thank you! I'll make a separate post for Kagu in a bit.
