Let’s Talk About Pokemon - The Shinx Family
403: Shinx
Shinx is a cute little Pokemon for those that are into some adorable electric types. I like Shinx and all, but I'd argue its most eye-catching feature is its color scheme. Like I said some time ago, I appreciate the Electric type that doesn't immediately fall back on the bumblebee colors. And blue's a pretty nice color for electricity too. But even still, it’s a color you see wind up on electric things a lot. You’d think there’d be more white Electric Types. Given how lightning is white and all.
Personal Score: 7.5/10
Competently designed. Cute. Sure to garner its fair share of fans.
404: Luxio
Luxio's pulling off a lion cub look a bit better than Shinx did, since it kinda just looked like any ol’ kitten. Luxio's just got a bit of awkwardness to it though. The bands are a bit much, and its back end's black fur just kind of ending at its feet super make it look like it's just wearing a pair of pants.
Personal Score: 6.5/10
Otherwise, it kinda just has the same points I like about it as Shinx did.
405: Luxray
Again, Luxray's fairly nicely designed as just a plain lion Pokemon. It’s kinda neat that our first lion Pokemon is Electric Type rather than Fire, which I feel like would’ve been too predictable a route to go. That aside, it doesn't do a whole lot to stand out, but I do also think it somewhat counts as one of the region's common earlygame 'mons. Not quite to the level of Bidoof, but still. It's just a plain, cool-looking lion. I think at this point, a Lion Pokemon's been a long time coming, so there's that at least.
Luxray's “thing” is that it apparently has X-ray vision, which it uses to track down prey. You can kinda tell with the off-colored eyes, but it definitely could've translated into its design better. Maybe with bigger eyes or a bit wilder in terms of colors. In any case, the x-ray thing's an interesting excuse to make it Electric type.
Personal Score: 7.5/10
Heh. Cool all around, I'd say.
Overall:
Not a very adventurous Pokemon. But hey.
