Actually here's another art of my Lord Captain Esther + a few steps. I believe that's the official Commissar uniform design from the Owlcat concept artworks that I borrowed.
Just mostly reposting stuff from my other platforms for now, didn't get to paint anything fresh but I hope I will sometime soon!
The inevitable 40k crossover art! I don't think the role of commissar would fit him well BUT - I'm most familiar with Gaunt's Ghosts, so there is that x)
The new Rogue Trader update has been a godsend for the Commissar Origin but I still think there's like two problems with, very minor but they still bug me.
1. The new At All Costs is significantly better than the old one, no competition there. But... Why would a Commissar, canonically speaking, shoot members of a tightly-knit retinue of professionals if not to be a tyrannical little bitch? From a gameplay perspective, it's Desperate Measure-lite and I appreciate that but story-wise, how does it make sense that any of the characters would still like or stick around your Rogue Trader if you just randomly shoot them as a way to tell them to lock the fuck in? I dunno, it's just kinda hard to rationalise, even if it is mercy-downing a near-death Party Member. If there were more expendable NPCs however, then I might be a bit more keen on blowing people's brains out. But this? This pales in comparison to the pettiness of my next gripe.
2. The fact that the Commissar's pistol abilities revolve around "main hand" placement. Owlcat. Why does it matter which hand I have my bloody gun in? I decide which hand is dominant for my character, not you. Why is it automatically "right hand" is main hand? And why can I not even fucking USE THE ABILITY in the first place if it's not in my right hand??? My RT is ambidextrous, he could absolutely nail you with his left hand. It's weird and petty and I will be an equally petty bitch about it.
The famed "Avenging Angel" commissar of the 101st Vendoland guard regiment.
