1970 Plymouth GTX This 1970 Plymouth GTX hardtop coupe is described as an unrestored, 70k-mile example that runs and drives well and that has seen limited use since 1993. Better-appointed than the Road Runners that shared the same Belvedere body, this one is plenty nice to drive and for once not over-restored. Find this one here on eBay in Tempe, Arizona with a $20k starting bid and no additional reserve. The seller notes that the paint, though shiny, is not “up to par.” The trunk reportedly was repaired and repainted by the previous owner, who also added the spoiler and the vinyl top. Or possibly replaced the top if it came from the factory. The rear bumper is said to have some scratches and the glass has some flaws as well. Compared to the Road Runner, GTXs offered a higher level of trim and a 440 V-8 as standard equipment.

This car isn’t perfect, but that only makes it more appealing to drive since it doesn’t have to be kept pristine. The flaws noted don’t seem major and the A/C no doubt can be fixed if a new owner so desires. Unrestored GTXs aren’t exactly common, so this one could be a decent deal if it checks out.

The Super Commando 440-cubic-inch V-8 had a four-barrel carburetor and was rated at 375 horsepower. The 426 Street Hemi was available for an additional $564. The seller says he’s replaced the engine and transmission gaskets as well as all belts and hoses including the A/C hoses but the A/C system wasn’t recharged. In addition, the front suspension and brakes were redone and the carburetor replaced.

The interior appears to be clean and in good condition, though we’d ditch the steering wheel cover. The seat covers and carpet were replaced by the previous owner. The seller had the gauges redone, but says the gas gauge isn’t working properly and suspects a wiring issue. GTX interiors were from the Sport Satellite and featured bucket seats, console with floor shifter and “simulated walnut grain” trim. The TorqueFlite automatic was standard, but a 4-speed manual was available as a no-cost option.
