A Current Happening in Dealey Plaza
Two weeks leading up to the 50th anniversary of the assassination of John F. Kennedy my wife and some friends of ours stopped by the Sixth Floor Museum in downtown Dallas on our way back from OU’s expected loss to Baylor. The museum experience was great, I could have easily spent three hours there. While on the sixth floor as I looked out the windows I could not help but notice the small line of people waiting to walk out into oncoming traffic to view a white X painted in the middle of the street that marked the location our country’s 35th president was shot.
After the museum tour we walked around Dealey Plaza taking in our fare share of conspiracy theorists peddling their magazines and documentation. We even heard from an actual person that was there in Dealey Plaza that day who was the only known pedestrian to have been injured in the event (that is a whole different story).
As an obsessed Instagrammer I knew if there was one shot I had to get it was from the X in the street lookup up to the 6th floor of the Texas Book Depository. This is the picture showed above.
But the story doesn’t stop there…
About a week after my trip I read an article noting that they were “laying asphalt to level out the streets to remove any trip hazards.” Full article here.
But the story doesn’t stop there…
Shortly after the eyes of the country had looked back to the City of Dallas to remember the events 50 years prior it appears that the X had returned. See full article here.
It was all bound to happen. I do have to hand it to the City of Dallas for having the X removed, even if it was only for the greater part of a week. As the above article read, they wanted a dignified event that focused on the life of John F. Kennedy rather than the “voyeurism of a murder.”
