Thanks for making democracy happen!!! " Rough day that never ends 18 hrs is a lot for my normal job....but being a poll worker during a pandemic had many unexpected surprises... Today was difficult, is difficult for all of us. I haven't been around so many people in one room since March. I didn't love that part of it... but better myself and other younger workers than the usual senior population who work the polls. I was uncomfortable with the lack of social distancing.... I managed to put myself in a position where I could generally stay safely far enough away from the 40-50 poll workers and 1000+ voters we had thru the day, but I will have to isolate and get tested in the next week or so to really know..... I couldn't sleep last night I don't know how I'll sleep tonight. I'm sure many relate. It was beautiful to see so many coming to vote. I think more young people should experience poll work. I don't have better words to explain why right now but it is important. It was a lot of pressure to be responsible for the votes counted properly at the 17th hour on no sleep. I've never been thanked so much for showing up. I've never felt so anxious, I've never feared so much for my personal health and safety (covid), never have the results of my personal work felt this important (even if I'm aware that nyc is more Dem, we are seeing that trump has a pretty good percentage of the popular vote. It's wayyyyy to close for what I expect from fellow New Yorkers) I'm not usually so emotional with my posts....but I'm extremely sleep deprived and generally feeling more emotional. To say there is so much at stake is an immense understatement. I really hope today was worth it.
