not to be all emo about luke patterson on main sideblog but like
this kid just wants to keep his friends safe and never wants those he cares about to waste any energy worrying about him??
we see it in the way he tries to cheer up both alex and reggie that first night and starts talking about all the positives to being dead. by taking them to hollywood boulevard and getting lost in the magic of music
we see it in the way alex (and reggie) go to hide behind luke when they walk into the HGC, like it’s a reflex, while luke just has a serious face on, ready to deal with whatever he’s gotta deal with to right bobby’s wrongs
we see it in the way he takes the brunt of julie’s disappointment, the way he takes most of the blame for not being there for julie
we see it in the way he apparently slips away from the gang to quietly mourn the life he left behind, the parents he left behind, without telling anyone where he’s going or what he’s doing
we see it in the way his first instinct once he finds out they’re doomed is not to tell julie. to figure out a solution and not burden her with their fate
we see it so clearly when julie shows up to his parents’ house, tells him she’s worried about him — and yet he still tries to tell her she doesn’t have to worry — shouldn’t worry. even when he knows she was there to witness the scene on his birthday, see with her own eyes the state he was in
we see it so clearly when he has to fight himself to tell her the truth about caleb and their unfinished business — the grimace on his face, the furrowed brow, the sad eyes. he fights himself on it because he doesn’t want to burden her with this, make her worry, make her sad. but for the first time he just...doesn’t have a choice. and that kills him
we see it when he steps forward, closer to julie, after she asks about their jolts, telling her they’re fine with a little smile and a wave of his hand
we see it when he steps forward as soon as he sees caleb, past his bandmates to stand between them and danger
we see it when he forces his body to move past the pain, pull himself up off the floor & drags his aching limbs across the studio towards julie because he can’t, he just can’t, watch julie panic and cry and worry over them as he lies there crumpled on the ground
we see it in the tears in his eyes as he uses his last moments on earth to try and comfort julie, tell her that they have no regrets
