Which do you like better cats or bees?
I couldn’t choose! I love them both.

So many masks this season and so many dual personalities. Seems like everybody’s pretending to be something they aren’t. Or maybe just refusing to acknowledge who they really are. I think it’s a theme this season. Don’t you?
ACK YES! I made this post:
http://mittensmorgul.tumblr.com/post/169862322055/do-you-think-jensens-showsover-tweet-is
(well, I replied to an anon, and then more interesting things were pointed out, and I added on a long list of Things That Look Like Other Things in every single episode of s13 so far– well I made the post before 13.10 aired, so I haven’t included Things That Look Like Other Things from that episode yet, but DARTH KAIA is probably a good place to start :P)
But yep! Agent Clegg may have really started out as an FBI agent who’d been exposed to the supernatural and found a way to capitalize on that knowledge AND on his access to federal investigations and the like to have been assigned HIS OWN KILLING SPREE as a case that he’d supposedly been “working” for the last 12 years.
I mean, what better cover? Very Dexter.
And poor Donna, who’d been living this lie about the Supernatural with Doug 2.0 for the last TWO YEARS. OUCH. She herself was pretending to be a thing she wasn’t…
Dean and Sam had to use those old aliases from 11.07 to maintain their appearances to Doug as FBI agents, and then replaced THAT cover identity with Dean telling Doug that Donna was family (cousins, specifically). But then all the masks fall off, and Doug gets the Deluxe Intro To Hunting Package with Bonus Vampirism! At least it was temporary!
And for Doug at least, the truth drives him away (validating Sam’s current bleak mood…)
I still find it interesting that the guy in the leather mask was never actually unmasked. We never saw the face behind it, you know?
Also, this was another episode where the real monster was just another human. The vampire was a decoy (he was a creep, but he wasn’t the mastermind of this operation). And Clegg wore a pig mask. (hello shades of 12.18 and the fake goat mask used to hide a much bigger danger that had escaped the basement)
eta: the pig mask AND the MANN’S CAFE signs both reminded me a bit of 4.04, and “long pig” (humans on the menu!)
Meanwhile Clegg recognized the Winchesters the second they rolled up in their very recognizable car, and had been trying to deliberately deceive them the entire time. The Winchesters were still forced to run around “pretending to be real FBI” and running down those leads, despite the fact that they didn’t actually lead anywhere. But it did keep them from seeing the truth about Clegg.
Thank You 💙

I was waiting for this kind of meta about Cas. Thank you Gerianne @gneisscastiel this is fantastic. Always a pleasure to be part of your awesome writing.

I’m being totally ineloquent here in response to a very well thought out analysis, but: All of the YAAAAAAS! The character growth expressed in this episode alone astounds me.

Squeaaaaaaallllllll. This whole thing makes me so happy. Cas confronting his depression and saying I will not let it force me into sleeping my life away for the rest of eternity. Frankly this is inspiring to me as someone suffering from depression when there are days I literally can’t get out of bed. I love this show. And am thankful for you all.

This is beautiful. When I see a post like this it always makes me wonder if the Supernatural writers even realize how much depth there is to their work, because I don’t think they intend half of the beauty and subtlety there is. That beauty starts to appear when these characters are given life by their actors and only truly complete when the right person analyses it through the unique lense of their perception.
Thank you all for these wonderful messages on my post! I have never received this much feedback before so I hope this mass thank you works <3 I am so glad that this post found the people it needed to and that it many of you found it inspiring. - Much love -Gerianne 💙💙💙

I think she’ll warm to him. She definitely saw Cas as one of her boys at least by 12.12 but I think before that too. I think seeing Cas in a spin when the boys were missing made her realize how much Cas loves them (albeit in different ways) and loving her boys is the way into Mary’s good graces. And Jack loves the boys. He idolizes them. And she missed out on her boys at this age so maybe this is a bit of a second chance for her.
Yeah, I mean, she'll be naturally suspicious (hello, son of the angel who dragged her into this personal hellhole!), but he did go through all of this just to save HER for Sam and Dean, because he cares about them. I don't think that fact will go unremarked upon. It might take her a bit to get past the whole "Son of Satan" thing, but yeah.
Will you tag me in your fic? I love your writing! And I love this idea!
OF COURSE! I am so glad that you want to be tagged :’)

7fairylights replied to your post: Hold on, 13 episodes have been filmed but we...
I am so interested in how things will play between Mary and Jack. I think she just gained herself another boy. And she was present at his birth. I wonder if she’ll tell him that.
Ooh! That's true too... I mean I think there's bound to be some serious tension between them, too. It was Jack's birth that opened the rift in the first place, and got her stuck in the AU with Lucifer and all the trauma she's endured as a result. She also doesn't know about everything else that's happened in the "real world" since 12.23. She knew Cas was killed, but not that Jack resurrected him. And that fact might actually inspire a bit of awed fear rather than comfort and safety, you know?
Mary personally doesn't have a track record of easily trusting supernatural beings. I mean, it took her a lot to even warm up to Cas, when we know her history of telling little Dean "Angels are watching over you."
So I do hope there's quite a bit of tension and uneasiness between them at first. And I look forward to watching them work through it. But yeah, I think she's gonna end up feeling rather adoptive toward the Nougat.
