It was great to see this brother. For those that don't know, I've known of this brother @agallahmusic since around '93 or '94 just freestyling around West 4th by McDonald's. Fellow Aquarius like myself, (same February but the next day after me) Around that time, I just met him when he got signed to EastWest Records. One minute we're partying at Cafe Linx, next minute I'm at the sideline in Tompkins Square Park watching them shoot the video to "Ghetto Girl". Glad to see this brother successful. When I was younger, “rap” music (not hip hop, that’s the culture) was fun. Everyone had their own sound, style and, they brought what they felt was lacking to the game and said “this is who I/we am/are”. We literally went from party and drug dealer music to unintelligible drug user music where a lot of these cats are “clones” bearing the same persona and sound as the next person. Rap music used to be the #CNN of whatever region it came from. You had the chance to learn and see what’s going on right outside your front door as well as what’s going on in other places. That gave us, as a community, a sense of connection to people and regions we had never met. I guess this rant is just to say, I miss the purity and artistry #Rap once was. Not to say there aren’t people staying true today but, then, originality was the name of the game.
