What exactly is the piano reservation 8th period? Do you just drop by the practice room and play the piano or is it for certain people? Also do you need to have a certain skill level on the piano?
Response from Penelope:
Basically there are 4 upright pianos in the music wing (two Kawai, one Yamaha, and one Boston) in 4 separate rooms. A lot of people practice during 8th pds bc we’re busy and whatnot. Unfortunately, you have to fight to sign up for a slot bc it is quite popular and there is, obviously, limited space. As long as you get a slot though, no one cares what you practice and how good you are (although since the rooms aren’t particularly soundproof sometimes people flex but that’s a separate issue). In general though most people tend to be fairly committed in order to spend extra time they could be using for clubs at Piano Reservation instead but there isn’t really a level of skill you need to have, as long as you can entertain yourself during that time lol.
Another note is that the pianos are not exactly well maintained so it’s not necessarily a Steinway experience (if you know what I mean lol). If you’re interested though, definitely give it a try! You can also drop by during lunch to test them out if they’re open. Good luck to you and your musical endeavors!
