FFX: Eternal Calm

I ended up beating FFX today. I was ridiculously OP so of course it was easy. I got a little teary-eyed, but not as emotional as I expected. It’s bittersweet, my favourite kind of ending.

I watched the Eternal Calm "movie” short. I’m deciding if I really want to play FFX-2 right now.

I started up a free account on Guild Wars 2 and it’s actually functional on my machine so that’s nice. I did turn the settings down. Originally the native resolution was so high I couldn’t read any of the text, but I dropped it down and cranked the menu size to max. Apparently the Mac client is basically just running Cider and you can tell because the hotkeys in the menu are all “ctrl+” etc. Do you mean Windows control, or Mac control? Pressing the F keys on a mac requires hitting FN first which is a PITA so I’m going to have to do some remapping. It’s also really disorienting that you have to hit the number keys to attack, as well as use WASD to move. What’s the point of having two hands? Maybe I should use the arrow keys to move and keep the abilities in the number slots. Who knows. I don’t play MMOs.

This is one of those games where you basically have to read the entire wiki to figure out what’s going on so I don’t know if I really have that amount of investment. I do like my leaf puppy and character, even if she isn’t a lizard. I will figure out how to take a screencap eventually.

FFX: I am watching a lot of dragon ball z

I made a mistake... You need 60 Dark Matter to do Break Damage Limit on a weapon... So even though I caught 5+ of all the monsters I was only able to put it on Tidus’ weapon. If I want more I need to defeat either Monster Arena creations or the Dark Aeons or get right to the almost very end of the final dungeon and it can be bribed.

I realize I am doing this to myself. I could just kill Sin and be done with this game.

So I caught 4 or more of every monster on the face of this stupid planet and the guy still wants more *eyetwitch* FINE. FIVE OF EVERYTHING. WHATEVER YOU WANT CREEPY OLD MAN. JUST GIVE ME MY DARK MATTER.

I’m officially tired of grinding. I’m going to give up on Dark Valefor. I still might catch all the monsters for the Break Damage Limit, but I’m pretty close to finishing that anyway. Beating the final battles should be relatively easy at this point.

FFX: I’m a butterfly dreaming I’m playing a video game

I concede defeat to the butterfly minigame. I think I’m actually getting worse the harder I try. I’ll make Kimahri a powerful weapon the good old fashioned way: grinding for insane amounts of money, then spending that money repeatedly bribing fiends for items.

But seriously, the one thing that the ultimate weapons do when they’re fully powered up is they always have “break damage limit” i.e. you can do more than 9999 damage which is super crucial to me beating these post-game bosses (i.e. dark valefor). To otherwise get break damage limit you need Dark Matter which is really hard to get. It costs about a million gil to bribe for 2. You get 99 if you collect at least 4 of every monster, which is doable for me right now, but since you need 30 dark matter to make break damage limit I can only really do 3 weapons with that set of 99.

Wakka isn’t going to be used for offence much any more, so I don’t care about him. He’s over in Rikku’s section of the sphere grid now.

Tidus needs the break damage limit.

Yuna has her celestial weapon.

Lulu needs break damage limit something fierce.

Rikku has her celestial weapon and I’m working her up to provide magic backup to Yuna and Lulu so that will come in handy.

Kimahri’s stats are getting great now that he’s finished about 1/3rd of the sphere grid. I want him to get break damage the most. I’ve had him set up to tank since the beginning and he’s routinely doing 9999 damage right now.

Auron has his celestial weapon and is working his way through Wakka’s part of the sphere grid.

So Kimahri, Lulu, and Tidus will get break damage limit sooner or later when I finish catching everything in Ultima Ruins and the last dungeon. Wakka is SOL.

I still need some more Lvl3&4 spheres but I can get them as drops in the last two dungeons so I can do that while I catch things. Rikku’s celestial weapon has Gillionaire on it which makes getting cash for bribes easier. I’m still also pumping up the stats of my aeons, but actually later enemies don’t drop as many of the regular spheres so I have to do that separately. I’m ignoring Ifrit and Ixion, but Valefor’s magic stat is awesome and worth supporting. The Three Sisters are already pretty high on all their stats. Otherwise I want Anima, Bahamut, and Shiva to get stronger so they can actually last more than a turn against Dark Valefor... *shakes fist at sky*

FFX: Unlocking $$$$$

Once I found out (gamefaqs) that you can get level 4 spheres by using Bribe for only 150,000 gil all that meant was I needed to go to the Omega Ruins and kill Mimic chests for 50,000 gil each. This is a bit time-consuming but the EXP is good. Mimic chests were super hard to kill when I first got to the Omega Ruins, but my aeons are strong enough now, and enough of them have unlocked 9999 damage, that I can just summon and wipe them out. So I raised about 500,000 gil (Chimera Brain costs 1600g to fight) and then proceeded to bribe it for 150000gil +/- 500 gil. Mostly it only gave me 1 per bribe, but I got two in one go, so it was enough. Bribe is so useful, and Rikku was so behind, it took forever to get her to this point, but it has all worked out since the Mimics are the only enemy that really drops an exorbitant amount of gil.

After a productive afternoon I now have access to Flare, Ultima, Holy, and Quick Pockets. I already have Wakka’s best attack (not that useful) and Tidus’ Quick Attack and Entrust (super useful) and Doublecast (necessary). In order to get Full Break and a few other things I need about 4 of each Level 3 and Level 4 Lock spheres. I also need some more cash for buying 4-empty-slot weapon/armour for the losers who aren’t going to get their celestial weapons. And some (54,000gil+change)*20 to bribe a Xiphos for Mega Elixers to use to put Double AP on a few more weapons. And (74,000+change)*5 to bribe Mech Leader for Overdrive -> AP.

So, you know, it all comes down to money.

But it’s worth it. I cackled out loud when Yuna used Holy for the first time and did an obscene amount of damage. Her magic stat is actually higher than Lulu’s. The White Mage’s Revenge.
