this has CONSTANTLY bothered me for years. but i just hate the way they have chie picking on yosuke and physically abusing him. her shadow targets him. her shadow somehow knows lightning just so she can kill him. her shadow almost broke his neck by strangulation where if it were not for yu unlocking his wildcard power, yosuke would have died. these are HORRIBLE things and the fact that they play it off for funny is honestly sickening tbh.
i really feel like after deeply apologizing over and over again after her shadow fight chie would not have ever physically harmed yosuke again. it is a wake-up call to how aggressive and abusive she’s acted during that time when he has done absolutely nothing to deserve it. it is NOT FUNNY. i hate the idea of yosuke being a punching bag and atlus keeps putting him in that role. yosuke is not comic relief. chie could have broken his ribs even. in the first few episodes she’s assaulted him multiple times and no one does shit about it.
but oh no but it’s funny, right? seeing a tiny girl doing that to a guy. no, it’s not. if chie were a boy and yosuke a girl this fandom would be setting her on fire and calling her an abuser. and yet no one ever brings this up. it’s total abuse -- plain and simple.
while the two would continue to bicker, i cannot see chie ever hurting him again much less another person who didn’t deserve it. her shadow teachers her a lot and the many things and problems she has with not only herself, but the way she treats the people around her. a measure of growth and understanding would be to stop doing this and not let it continue any further after that battle, which it should have and not been exploited for a disgusting, unfunny trope.
