I wish i could turn my brain off to read fic, but the pedantic voice in my head goes-- but that's not how player trades work. There is zero chance an MVP level player gets traded to their closest competitor for wishy washy behaviour or PR reasons or their own screw ups therein.

The real answer for why a dumb decision gets made in sports though is virtually always the billionaire owners either (1) grossly overestimating their own competence and making completely bizarre business decisions, or (2) pulling shady dark money business, or (3) trying to dodge having to pay their workers [players and their staff] or taxes [salary cap], or (4) being a raging bigot. Just like IRL.

Rescue missions will often dart injured elephants to provide medical treatment, and leave the ground before they wake. Do the elephants just wake up mysteriously healing, the bullet or barbed wire gone? Do they share these stories at their mysteries multi-herd meetings? Is there a holy place elephants can wander to, to throw themselves to the hand of fate, lose consciousness, and then have miracles happen?

if i still did the fic thing, i would be so tempted to sign up to Be The First to write for Beyond the Wall (2016) / Au delà des Murs. id-fic candy.

ghost story that is really fantasy/mystery masquarading as horror. there are creatures with sharp teeth and children who should be dead, but the underlying sense of dread is the backdrop for mystery, and emotion, and psychological horror. the ghosts don't jump out; they tempt you to follow and then fade slowly into the dark.

emotionally closed female lead who wears a marriage ring to avoid being hit on, who is also really handy with plumbing + sledgehammers

ex-soldier from 1916 and speech therapist from 2015 who become lovers/partners who save each other and bring each other back to life, figuratively and literally. favourite ship in 2018.

otp-level hurt/comfort, competent partners, romantic frustration behind the scenes, and pretty strongly implied sharing body heat

spooky, gorgeous cinematography in the endless rooms found beyond the walls (hah) of an old, creepy house. rooms full of forests, lakes, and decorations from different eras.

the worldbuilding outline and speculation for what The House and its original inhabitants actually are

this is my favourite review

whoops this ended up being more a general rec than Fic I Want, but pretty cinematography, characters, ship, worldbuilding with the gaps in all 3 that are begging to be filled = you should actually all watch this

the posts about jyn and cassian and tattoos today keep reminding me of that soulmate marks au i never wrote

where jyn’s soulmate mark/sentence/whatever is scarred over from a blast just after she left the partisans, and between survival and prisons she never trusts enough to open her heart and let the words grow back. and cassian has never even seen his because the rebellion has tech to erase the markings (too easily identifiable otherwise, since they grow back exactly the same as before), and gets the erasure retouched every year since he’s always on missions undercover.

ETA: If anyone is wondering, this story was actually planned out all the way back in January 2017. The reason it was abandoned was because the 4000 words written were all backstory. Also, Jyn is very sad during all of that backstory.
