A character going from having one single goal for most of their lives suddenly to abandoning that motivation because they’ve fallen in love is boring. It’s frustratingly unrealistic, and any good writer would know that people don’t lose their underlying desires just because they’re in a romantic relationship. That’s some manic-pixie-dream-fix-me-and-shape-me-into-a-different-person-uwu type of tomfoolery. Lazy writing doesn’t even begin to describe how incredibly pathetic it is to take away a character’s core driving force for the sake of underdeveloped romance.
