“I’d love to see them sometime,” I say, “and hear some of your stories!” The weight of my bag on my arm reminds me that I have things to hand out still. I set it down on the floor. “In the meantime, I have something for you guys!” I fish around in the bag and manage to pull out two small packages. I hand one to Pluto and one to Jupiter. “I wasn’t sure on colors, so if you don’t like ‘em, you can switch.”

Each package contains a long knitted scarf. One is an ombre that goes from light to dark blue and the other goes from light blue to bright golden yellow. Both of them have sparkling silver thread running through them, so they look like they have stars on them. I wait eagerly for their reactions.

"CRIKEY THAT'S STELLAR." He says with an slight hint of an accent that wasn't there before. "THIS IS AMAZING!!!" Said accent is gone. He wraps the blue and gold scarf over his other thin cloth scarf.

"Heh, Thanks Anne, this is awesome." Pluto cuddles his.

Jupiter looks the scarf over with a smile. "DID YOU MAKE THESE?" He asks his stary eye lights sparkle.

So, I can’t draw to save my life, but I wanted to give you something to celebrate Silas’s birthday. Here you go!

A package arrives on the doorstep. It’s wrapped in paper that looks like the sky, blue with puffy white clouds that have a little texture to them when you touch it. The attached card says, “Happy birthday, Silas! Love, Anne”

You bring the present inside to the birthday boy. Silas drums his hands on the paper and pets the clouds, then rips the paper off in a flurry!

Inside the package is a big, big bunny plush. It’s a soft mint green color, with embroidered eyes that look like it’s smiling happily and an embroidered pink nose. The bunny has a red bandana around its neck and a little yellow shirt that has an S on it. The whole things is almost as tall as Silas and is clearly hand-crocheted.

There’s another little note inside the paper, although your son ignores it in favor of his new toy. He studies the rabbit for a moment, then grabs an ear and pulls. The ear stretches but does not come off. He tries the other ear. It is sewn fast. Silas tackles the bunny and lands on top of it. He coos happily and looks over at Red. “Bun!” he declares.

Red watches his son with misty eyes. You pick up the rest of the paper and notice the note.

Dear Kezi,

I made this for Silas for his birthday. I hope he likes it. Sorry I can’t be there today. (I’m a bit preoccupied at the moment.). Please give the birthday boy a big hug from me. I don’t know if I’m Auntie Anne, but tell him I said hello and happy birthday!

The shirt the bunny is wearing should fit Silas, if he ends up taking it off. The bandana also comes off and, again, should fit him if you want to let him wear it. Everything can be machine washed and nothing should happen to Bun if you toss him in the machine and just let it go. I did my best to make sure he wouldn’t fall apart no matter what happened to him. My niece has a test bunny I made and she hasn’t been able to destroy hers yet.

I can’t believe it was a year ago that Silas was born! You and Red are such good parents, and I know he’s got a lot of loving uncles around too. Please let me know if you need a babysitter some time. I’ll come over in a heartbeat!

“I saved a piece for you” with Crooks, please? It’s so sweet. Maybe with pizza (my favorite food)? Thank you! 💕💖💕

Your sweet skeleton boyfriend called you over. So of course you obliged and came to his call.

"What is it sweets?" You asked.

He lent against the table, possibly an attempt to make himself seem a little shorter?

"You know how I love you lots." He chimes.

You give him a little nod, "and I love you too."

He takes a box from behind him on the table and opens it up before you.

You're eye's sparkle at the contents.

He gives you a big smile his eyelights sparkle with anticipation as he seeks your approval. "I saved a piece for you."

The hot fresh piece of cheese pizza calls your name.

"Thank you." You chime as you lean up to award the sweetiest skeleton in the world a little kiss, before you accept his gift of food.

Crooks finds an extra book in his bag after English class. It’s a book I’ve talked about a lot. It’s clear this is a new copy of it. He’s seen my copy and it’s all beat up well-loved. There’s an envelope tucked inside the front cover. Inside is a note from me, written in purple ink.

Dear Sweets,

Happy Valentine’s Day! I’ve got a couple treats for you that I’ll share at lunch, but I wanted to give you this too. I just figured you’d want to know what I’m gushing about when I keep talking about this. Thanks for always listening to my dorky ramblings, and for being so sweet. You’re the best.

Happy valentines day, I hope your day is going wonderfully. I just want to ask if you'd like to hangout after school? We could go somewhere together... I'm not sure where yet, we can talk about it at lunch. But now you can start thinking about it I guess. Can't wait to see you properly at lunch.

“I can tell you two are buddies,” I say. I laugh too. It’s sweet. “Your trip must have been really fun, though! Did you take lots of pictures? Bring back any souvenirs?”

"OH LOTS OF PICTURES, A WHOLE ALBUM."

"And got a plenty souvenirs and trinkets." Pluto adds.

“Hi guys!” I say. I wave my free hand. “It’s good to meet you too! Pluto and Jupiter. I’ll try to remember.” I smile at them. “Are you happy to be home? I heard you were on a big trip.”

"YES IT'S GOOD TO BE BACK."

"Yeah good to be back with our friends." Pluto pulls Blue into a noogie.

"HEY! DON'T NOOGIE THE SKELETON."

He let's go and they both laugh as Blue tries to get him back.

"BEHAVE YOU TWO." Jupiter chuckles.

Crooks gives a little laugh at their antics.

“All right!” I beam and follow him into the living room. I recognize most of the boys, and a few of the guests. I clutch at my bag with one hand but try to smile at everybody. I’m not that great at parties, but I do want to meet the new lads. Maybe later Crooks and I can find a reason to slip away from the crowd.

Crooks takes your hand giving it a squeeze. He gives you a soft smile before he guides you past the people. He gives a wave to Pluto and Jupiter.

"Hello, Pluto, Jupiter, This is Anne." He chimes.

"HELLO ANNE."

"Hey nice to meet you."
