Another Chance to Sing Your Heart Out On Saturday 19 December 2020 at 16:00 there’s another opportunity to join the hugely popular ‘Carols Around the Tree’ service at Lichfield Cathedral. The outdoor service will give ticket holders the opportunity to sing along to their festive favourites around the beautifully lit Christmas Tree outside the Cathedral. Remembrance-tide is an important period in the Cathedral's calendar, it gives us all the opportunity to honour the memory of those people who have lost their lives in service to humankind, especially during war. For 2020, alongside the services, the cathedral will be marking it by bringing back two of the most popular shows: Poppy Fields and Imagine Peace, re-imagined for 2020 by the award-winning artistic collaboration Luxmuralis.

Back by Popular Demand

Poppy Fields was created in 2018 to mark the centenary of World War One, it was attended by tens of thousands of visitors to the Cathedral and since then they've been asked by many to bring it back. 2020, with the challenges and difficulties that we have all faced, seemed the perfect opportunity to do so. The light and sound show will allow visitors a much-needed chance to reflect not only on past and present conflicts but also the global pandemic affecting us all.

The immersive projection will see poppies and flowers cascade across the ceiling, walls and floor of the Cathedrals – remembering those who have fought so valiantly for our peace and safety. Accompanying the projections will be specially composed music by David Harper and poetry read by Oscar-winning actor, Eddie Redmayne.

Imagine Peace, in the same year, was an interactive light and sound exhibition, contemplating the concept of Peace. The profound and reflective installation was one of the best-attended Great Exhibitions at Lichfield Cathedral.

Welcome to the new 3D Virtual Tour of Lichfield Cathedral

In these difficult times, Lichfield Cathedral have been proactively seeking out ways to use the latest technology to allow access to the Cathedral and their services virtually. Since lockdown they have launched a Virtual Prayer Wall and have been hosting live streamed and pre-recorded services on Facebook and YouTube and now they have there very own 3D Virtual Tour.

The 3D Virtual Tour allows visitors from all over the world to explore the Cathedral at their own pace, to virtually walk down the aisles, gaze at the architecture and exquisite craftmanship from the comfort of their own homes. Whether visitors have been before in person, or have never set foot in the Cathedral, the tour is sure to delight and amaze.
