the hands-down best thing in the Last Binding trilogy is how when you meet Edwin Courcey in book 1, he has the demeanor, self-esteem, and (total lack of) public regard of a runty mongrel cat that was birthed directly into a cold puddle and has been lying there ever since, hissing faintly every time it’s kicked (it’s kicked all the time) but never even trying to get up…
Then by book 3, not only is the entire book just all the other protagonists continuously going, [Arthur Shappey voice] “Edwin will do something clever and it will all be fine.” as they follow whatever plan he researched up this time, BUT ALSO the antagonists, including notably Edwin’s shitheel brother who’s dedicated a significant amount of their lives to discounting and tormenting him, going, “Unfortunately, we must adapt our evil plans specifically to account for the fact that Edwin Courcey is the cleverest magician in the British Isles.” Walter Courcey shouting, “Edwin’s up to something!” like a tattletale sibling in the back seat on a road trip, you will always be famous to me (derogatory) (not calling him the nickname he hates now are you, fucker). (And then Edwin breaks his magical handcuffs, asks his hot & punchy boyfriend to cause a distraction, and channels an entire leyline until he shines like lightning and blows up/partially dissolves magician!parliament; you will always be famous to me (laudatory, exultant.))
rip alan ross you would’ve loved luigi mangioni
Here’s an update on my The Last Binding Lineup, for anyone who’s interested
I’ve added clothes, and done some colour blocking! Now it’s time for the fun part; lineart and rendering! (also, I decided Edwin should cradle one-handed. That mess of a hand will be fixed later, don’t worry)
Edwin and his collection of ppl who keep reminding him not to khs
edwin has an aquiline nose, and his eyes are always shadowed. his joints stick out oddly and his lips are thin even when he smiles
robin freckles instead of tans. his knuckles are split and healed ten times over and his ears are funny from rugby. he has a tiny chip in his front tooth
maud is chubby, and she can never make her hair sit symmetrically. her teeth are a little crooked too and she has to fight with acne sometimes
violet has a tooth gap and some of her hair is always loose. she’s awkwardly tall and her hair makes a strange contrast when she tans. one eye sits lower than the other
alan is covered in moles. his nose is aquiline and the skin on his hands is cracked. his facial hair is always scruffy, his teeth are gapped
jack is more fat than muscle, and he’s greying at 35. his nose is scarred as well as crooked, as is his lip and traces down his back
I don't care what you say, the fanfiction is always better when there's only 6 other people in your fandom.
It was almost like a foresight. A vision, elbowing aside all of Robin's other thoughts, that reached only a few moments into the future. He would keep hold of Edwin's face and pull it forward. He would let the heat of Edwin's body between his legs sear itself into memory, he would set his lips to that neck, that mouth-
A woman's scream sliced through the air, from the direction of the house.
