This socially constructed hierarchy functions to reassure a technologically over-stimulated imagination that culture/man will prevail in his encounters with nature. The role of the gendered body in this boundary setting is significant: it serves as the site where anxieties about ‘the proper order of things’ erupt and are eventually managed ideologically. Investigating the interaction between material bodies and new technologies is produced by a complex arrangement or articulation of texts, narratives, institutional structures, economic forces, bodily practices and other material effects.”
