Shapeshifters. Warriors of Aemetora. Fearless of death. Shapeshifters live peacefully among nature, turning into animals and creature to care for their already dessert land. Any living plants are to be nurtured and cared. Their life though, are not as peaceful. As warriors and heroes of Aemetora, all citizens of Arcadia are to be trained. Trained to be heroes, soldiers, and warriors to protect the kingdom.
Jonathan was the golden child of the clan. He was best at everything, excel at everything. He made his parents proud. The clan predict that he would be the hero of Aemethora. He was 1 day past his 17th birthday when he started shifting. Talented, indeed. Most shapeshifters had to go through a lot of process to be able to shift a hair strand.
Valkyra lived in an ophanage as her parents died in the last war, as heroes of course. She was 17 years old that time, the age of turning when shapeshifters finally found their creatures and learn to shift. Then the calling came. All who were 17 were forced to enter a fight with each other on the Ring, to win a chance to live in Aether. For the honor of the clan (obviously).
Valkyra saw the opportunity to escape training and discrimination she lived through. Her parents died in honor, and she proves to have no ability to fight like her parents did. Obviously, she didn't know what Aether would be like, but anything is better that to be scorned continuously by her foster parent.
The match soon begun. All 17 year olds gather in the Ring, where a protective spell was cast to prevent anyone from dying uselessly. Jonathan fought bravely, Valkyra desperately. Soon, all the other youth had fallen and the two were left.
They are friends. Jonathan had teach Valkyra a lot and Valkyra had grown interest in him. But they had to fight. They did and Valkyra won.
"Valkyra Mileif," said the Ring master "I declare you Volunteer of Arcadia."
