Everyone says that the first parts of your book are great to write, that the middle is when it gets bad and frustrating, BUT NO! NOT FOR ME!!
I know so much about these characters. I have spent nearly three years just PLANNING THEM. I know they are complex people, that there are so many motivations they operate under. But they haven't gone through any of their development yet. Two of them are monarchs, one more cruel than the other. One is a naïve, traumatized girl, incredibly excited to commit ritualistic suicide by the end of part one, one is a BIRD WHO IS USED TO EATING POPCORN WHILE WATCHING SHIT GO DOWN AND CAN'T HANDLE HAVING AN ACTIVE ROLE IN ANYTHING.
I want to get to the fun parts but I have to write an interrogation scene the pov character is making a peasant whose husband just got murdered and framed as a traitor out to be an accomplice to an attempted murder that never happened. I have to write these people making horrible decisions they think are completely justified and hope the reader doesn't take their side. And don't get me wrong, that is cool, but the DEVELOPMENT!! I WANT TO WRITE THAT!! NOT THE BEGINNING!!! THEY HAVEN'T EVEN LEFT FOR THEIR JOURNEYS YET THEY'RE JUST THINKING ABOUT IT. GO! GO ALREADY SO I CAN GET TO THE FUN PARTS!!! WHY AM I WRITING SO SLOWLY???
