kevin and injuries is such a ridiculous combination. he is so intense about sports med that he would follow recovery plans to a t but he’d also get so incredibly frustrated at not being able to do “simple” things. kevin in pt for his hand picking up ballpit balls and putting them in a box, so focused but just so fucking mad. his wrist is too stiff. he needs to be mindful of how much he twists. he is acutely aware of how his skin stretches beneath the bandage. (it doesn’t need to be bandaged anymore. maybe scar tape if anything. he just can’t stand to look at it any more than he has to.) he’s trying to hold a pencil and can’t close his fingers enough to grip it yet. and he dropped it again. it’s so fucking ridiculous. the pt is picking it up for him and andrew’s watching intently from across the room in the Designated Support Person Chair with a lollipop from the receptionist. ridiculous

(b-friend anon) uhhh okay, in the first draft of the fic it was actually going to be jay-POV, and it's matt who reveals to jay that he's dating a guy and jay is the one who freaks out. nicolas was going to be a concept artist whom matt met when he was preproduction for the MTG movie. In that jay-pov version they would have traded drunken blowjobs a few times in the webseries era, but the whole thing imploded from a combo of internalised homophobia/miscommunication/being in your early 20s/also it was the 2000s. And the major theme of that fic would have been ~the odyssey of recollection~, because the two of them have conflicting memories of why it imploded and who was at fault and since it's the one thing that was never filmed it becomes this lacuna around which both of them have formed their own interpretations etc etc

ok wow hi wow ok i didn't expect this to really happen LOL sorry for doubting you the first time around i do genuinely genuinely have questions i won't hit you with them all at once. but first of all INSANE that there's a whole other version of this fic that is just like. its complete inverse? but also complementary to it? kind of insanely beautiful to bring in the idea of it not being filmed & the odyssey of recollection considering that whole part of the final version of the fic is about selective memory of the collective and also the way matt has learned to interpret and reinterpret cues and interactions of their own and also of jay's. i guess my first question would be would you ever consider posting that version of the fic? or adapting that somehow into a different fic/an accompanying piece to the b-friend?

because my first question was genuinely going to be: what would you say jay's side of the story is? i read some of your replies and i really like what you said about jay being referred to as ''him'' in the fic is akin to the siken ''love for you is like religion'', and him being the center of everything to matt. i was wondering what the flipside of this is for jay! it's so interesting having almost no insight into his thoughts besides the moments you-as-matt understand, project on him, read his mind in a best friend way, etc. but even that is so heavily clouded by matt's own self doubt, inner monologue, distractions, and the like.

my other questions i have for now:

what were your influences & inspirations? besides m&j/ntbts interviews, what kind of things were you drawing from when writing this?

how long did it take you to write? how long had you been planning it before it was completed and posted?

what other rpf are you into, and do you think there are any throughlines between the dynamics and works of art youre drawn to?

what are your thoughts on matt's other films?

you kind of implied some of what you may be thinking about matt's relationship with owen, which i really liked/really made me nauseous cos i agree. but let's frolic a little bit more in rpf fields, cos what other thoughts do you have on their relationship? kind of ties in with question 4 i guess...

and finally: have you ever watched head 1968? or do you know anything about the monkees...?

ok anyway i hope you see this & that youve seen how much youve done for the rpfheads of nirvanna the band tumblr. really genuinely this fic being posted felt like a cultural shift. and i already said this in my comment (mythofthefisherking) but it's immediately entered the leagues of my favourite fics of ALL time. much love. and if you don't mind answering these questions i may have some more for next time lol.
