I have discovered a new level of Lost In The Worldbuilding Sauce, and it is called “I made a fake 2080’s band whose lyrics consist largely of scavenged audio samples from tv and radio broadcasts, in order to give my main character a favorite musical artist whose work can inform him about the pre-apocalypse world”. I just spent an hour researching the North Atlantic hurricane name rotation and how home field advantage works for the MLB World Series in order to create a fake news event that this fake band wrote a song about. So that my character can also know about it 30 years later.

Ipomoea pandurata – Wild potato vine. A member of the bindweed family, this plant is perhaps best known for its sweet potato-like roots; but its flowers indicate that it is also a morning glory – a tough little blossom that blooms at the end of summer and into early fall when many other flowers are finished for the year.

Genus Helianthus – Sunflowers. Reaching up to eight feet tall, these hardy perennials have come to symbolize light, strength, and hope.

Acer saccharum – Sugar maple. A resilient and extremely shade-tolerant tree, this plant is capable of waiting for an opening in the canopy to form, sometimes for years, before shooting upwards toward the sunlight.
