THIS ONE TIME AT BANDCAMP: Volume 14
This week, I tried to include a little something for everyone. Below you’ll find some of the best semi-undiscovered punk, electronic, and folk influenced music I’ve been able to wrangle up through the powers that be over at Bandcamp.
Wet Socks: Drips by Wet Socks
Wet Socks: Sometimes, those two cups of coffee in the morning aren’t enough to get you going. On days like that, the Savannah, GA based band Wet Socks might be your only cure. Their special blend of energetic garage rock will help perk you up and chug on through the next day when all you’re excited for is bed again. Wet Socks isn’t afraid to yell, shred, or beat the hell out of a drum set. They’re like a musical slap in the face in all the best ways.
RIYL: Ty Segall, Bass Drum of Death
Favorite Track: "Midnight Owl"
Stank Tapes by Aarthritis
Aarthritis: Beyond garage rock, I have a not-so-secret love of well-produced, downtempo electronic music. Aarthritis comes from Davis, California and may or may not be the sandwich-eating man featured on the album art (probably not). Not only is the music fantastic and very well-produced, but it also samples some names you’re probably familiar with like Neil Young, Craft Spells, The Unicorns, and Modest Mouse. Are you intrigued yet? Aarthritis refuses to be ignored, especially because the two ‘A’s in the name ensure these crafty tunes will forever perch at the very top of your music library.
RIYL: Jamie XX, Caribou, Darkside
Favorite Track: "Como"
Blue Breath by Bellows
Bellows: Resulting in beautiful, layered folk pop, Bellows is the Brooklyn-based bedroom recording project of Olliver Kalb. His newest album, Blue Breath, was recorded in five different bedrooms near and far. The sound and lyrics express a sense of vulnerability that is refreshing and somewhat unmatched in today’s current sound landscape. Sounds converge, fall apart, and blend in unexpected combinations that defy the restrictions of a single genre.
RIYL: Mutual Benefit, Local Natives
Favorite Track: "Change By Night"
