A photo that caught my attention right away was Abelardo Morell's Seven Crayons which is a part of his Childhood series. In this piece, and in the series as a whole, I see nostalgia in subject matter and in the mood set by the black and white nature of the image. I, myself, tend to be nostalgic a lot of the time reminiscing on my childhood simply because I appreciate living like a child; thus, I could relate to the photograph.

The second photo in this post, my recreation of Morell's work, is my way of displaying my desire to hold onto a childlike mentality while still maturing during the continuation of my life. I've decided to keep my image in color as to portray present or modern times, as though time has passed since childhood, also shown by the late afternoon lighting. The colors emote the liveliness or brightness of a child of which I have kept and hope to keep. What I utilized to symbolize the inevitable developing maturity was the subject matter itself: the pencils. Prismacolor colored pencils are seen as high quality materials in the artistic world, definitely a step up from crayons you might have used as a child in kindergarten. In essence, the image that I have captured is me.
