BIOGRAPHY –
The eldest of the Hendrix brood, Abel always took on the role of the protector rather effortlessly. Whether it be his siblings being messed with growing up, people talking smack about his family or his father, being bodyguard to a particular Salazar, it came naturally to him. Loyalty was always his forte, and he’d be self-sacrificing for anyone he even remotely cared about, no matter the situation. Although, there was no denying his aversion to the world he grew up in, the Upper East Side. Born to a wealthy set of parents as the eldest of twins by several minutes, and he never let Kian live it down, there was always an underlying expectation that weighed upon his shoulders. To fit in. To enjoy the world of the wealthy, be a part of the super rich kids. However, from day one, he’d always been the black sheep of the family, and nothing would ever not remind him of that fact. His siblings tended to get along more so than he did with either one of them, he wasn’t interested in pleasing his father or the social circle that surrounded them. No, Abel Hendrix always dreamed of the day he’d escape Manhattan and find his niche, somewhere in the world of Brooklyn.
Cue an eighteen year old Abel, revelling in making music and working at a local bar for a little extra cash. This borough was everything he’d dreamed of, and more. A world where he didn’t have to fake it or wonder whether he belonged. He was free of all expectations, free of pleasing anyone or fitting into a box. His passion lay instead with making music, with freeing himself to the things he didn’t have to make secret. From a young age, however, his dedication to the Salazars brought out the loyalty within him. You see, there was a particular Salazar he couldn’t get out of his mind throughout high school, despite the fact she was his younger brother’s best friend. However, Rolando Salazar was a man his own father respected, and in turn, Abel respected also. His flighty childhood with his mother disappearing faltered to diminish the respectful, loyal aspects of his personality as shaped by his upbringing. But when he was asked to be a bodyguard for Regina Salazar by a man who seemed to entrust his daughter in Abel’s care, he did it without question.
Falling in love with her wasn’t part of the plan. Nor was finding himself falling deeper and deeper into the world of the Salazar cartel. An on and off relationship would embark for years to come, fuelled by passion and hatred and probably something like love. Either way, these two were terrible for one another. Over the years, he’d come to accept their fateful status, instead focusing his loyalty on the cartel. Through the bar he’d managed to open in his early twenties, Abel instead focused on building an empire of his own known as Genesis. He’d have a team he’d call family, be able to play music whenever he wanted, and maintain his loyalty to the cartel without having to put all of his time and effort in. Through Genesis, smuggling occurs, unbeknownst to most of his employees, of course. But if one thing’s for sure, it’s that he’s loyal to two families, to a certain number of friends and to his Genesis tribe — and there isn’t anything he wouldn’t do for them.
Broody as hell, Abel sits comfortably in his Williamsburg home knowing he’s carved a path of his own, without anyone forcing him to do so. He’s made something of himself, without being overexposed. Making music with his band, spending almost all of his time at Genesis, and being loyal to both families leaves him utterly content. That doesn’t stop him from being moody as hell ninety nine percent of the time, or competing with the likes of Regina Salazar and Upper East Siders he can’t stand.
