Okay, I originally wrote this for Gadreel-The-Angel 'cause they were having a rough day; If you're reading this, hello! Hope it made you feel better! I think I sent it to you under anynmous though...Anyway, I decided I would post it on my blog as well, rather than just letting it collect dust in my computer hard drive. Hope it makes some people happy.

Imagine, if you will, that Gadreel didn’t end up with the Winchesters after the angels fell. No call for help, no Sam dying, no reason for Gadreel to get involved with them. He has no purpose, so he travels around, moving from place to place, enjoying his new freedom and exploring how much Earth has changed since he last saw it, with a wistfulness that Abner were still around to explore it with him.
In time, he’s exploring another town, no large differences between it and the others but so, so, many little differences. As he’s walking down the street, he doesn’t realise he’s about to bump into someone until it’s almost too late. Apologies are made on both sides, before it comes to a screeching halt as Gadreel finally looks at the human face, and see’s the familiar grace of Abner beneath it.
There’s shocked stillness from both of them, before Abner’s face splits into a wide grin and embraces Gadreel. “I thought you were dead”s, “I missed you”s, and “I love you”s are exchanged; maybe a few tears fall. The hug goes on for a long time, and even when they separate, Abner keeps hold of Gadreel, before taking Gadreel back to his home, telling him to ‘come meet (his) charges’.
Abner explains on the way of how the vessel he took was abusive to his wife, and how he’s caring for the wife of his vessel the way she should have been by her husband. He supports her and lives with her, but they’ve talked about who he is, and about his love for Gadreel, and agreed that he wouldn’t treat her as his wife, but as a friend, perhaps a little sister. He talks at length about Delilah, telling Gadreel he’ll love her instantly.
As they arrive, Mrs. Sarver sees them through the window, instantly guessing who the mysterious man is by the sheer joy that is coming from Abner. When Delilah comes up to her, asking who the strange man is with Daddy, she tells her that he is ‘Daddy’s special friend who’s been missing for a long time’. Delilah asks if that’s why Daddy has been so sad, and she replies with yes and ‘how about you go get some of your toys ready and see if he’ll play with you’, already thinking of ways to convince this new angel to stay with them.
As they arrive, Gadreel is starting to get nervous; what if they don’t like him, or feel he’s intruding; He only just found Abner again, he can’t lose him now. His fears are for nothing, however, as, when they get inside the house, Mrs Sarver greets him with a hug before teasing Abner that ‘he never mentioned Gadreel was this cute’, causing them both to blush. The little girl, Delilah, comes running up to him, and grabs hold of his leg, asking if he’d play tea-time with her, and read her a book, and so many other things. Abner was right, he loves her instantly.
By the time he realises it, he’s spent the entire day playing with Delilah, talking with Mrs Sarver and enjoying being reunited with Abner, and the sun has long since set. With a wry smile, Mrs Sarver tells him there’s a spare bedroom and he’s quite welcome to stay. It’s only long after he accepts that he finds out that Abner and Mrs Sarver don’t share a bed, and the spare bedroom is where Abner sleeps. They both take this as her blessing.
Time skip a few months forward, maybe even a year, and Gadreel and Abner are waking up slowly, curled around each other in their bed, listening to the birds chirping and sleepily watching the morning rays of sun coming through their bedroom window. It’s nice, warm and peaceful; at least until Delilah comes barging into their bedroom and starts jumping up and down on the bed, shouting ‘Daddy! Papa! Wake up already! Mommy’s making pancakes!’, before taking off again. It makes Gadreel smile, walking into the kitchen with Abner arm around his waist, seeing Mrs Sarver making breakfast and hearing Delilah talk about everything so fast, and his only thought is that, finally, he is home.
