If someone told me in 2022 that Charles would get enagaged in arguably the sweetest possible way and buy a huge apartment and mobe in with his fiancée, I would have called them delusional and asked if they were Charlotte undercover.

i'm so curious, when did you become a charles fan and what were the expectations/atmosphere like when charles first signed with ferrari? i heard it wasn't an expected move from ferrari to sign a rookie, and going back through old reddit posts and social media there were mixed reactions although there were a lot in favor of it!

So ordinarily I don't really care too much about drivers until they become Ferrari drivers, especially since I kinda follow F2 to be aware of rookies coming up but it's not my main focus. Charles was the exception. Because if you are someone in the sport talking frequently about how much you like Ferrari constantly I will take notice. And of course when he came into F1 it was with a very impressive F2 record behind him so I was more aware of him and his skill.

It was exciting seeing him have one of the best rookie seasons in years. But then the whispers that he was signing with Ferrari started to happen and I locked in. Because if this kid is going to drive a Ferrari I need to know everything.

I'd say I became a fan mid 2018, and completely in 2019 as soon as he started racing for the team. He became my favorite after that first season. Not only the wins, but his commitment to working through the hard parts of the season with the team as well.

I was actually pretty excited to see Ferrari sign some younger talent. Because Charles was certainly Ferrari material and I think young drivers who are that good should have their shot to prove themselves at a top team. And clearly Ferrari was right.

The atmosphere was mixed to positive. As seeing Kimi go was hard. But also Charles was very clearly skilled and also a long time Ferrari fan himself, which made a lot of people feel better.

First of all it's about the talent, and he IS talent. But people who are not racing experts like Charles too because he is genuine. He is easygoing, kind, well-mannered, friendly. He is 'normal', in a way, and I think that is why he is so well-liked . He brings his girlfriend to the track, his mother, his brothers – and they're as 'normal' as he is. His story is beautiful and he reminds me of Jules Bianchi. But I was fortunate enough to get to know him and I have genuine affection for him, because he is a good person, and I think everyone can see that from the outside.

There’s not much “fun” to say about Charles Cromwell. The head of the Cromwell Clan is easily the worst apple in the bushel, from his emotionally abusive, totalitarian treatment of his children to his chauvinistic, haughty attitude to his deep-seeded prejudice against Muggles and anything that’s not heteronormative, he’s all-around a rather unpleasant fellow to live with. He’s able to hide all of this pretty well in polite society, putting forward a very suave, cool air and play the wise, protective, grandfatherly type toward his family -- but even those who consider him a friend are very well aware of how powerful he is and how much he prefers to have control over a conversation. One of Charles’s closest associates is Lucius Malfoy, and although the two get along quite well, there’s always a distinct “push-and-pull” dynamic to their interactions, with the younger Lucius subtly trying to pull control back his way without letting Charles catch wise. Both of them see themselves as superior to the other, Lucius for his blood and Charles for his position and age, and so even though they’re allies, they don’t see each other as equals. Charles admittedly does have a bit of a tragic backstory that explains his behavior, having been the neglected youngest of three sons who grew up knowing that he might not even be his father’s biological child and against all odds somehow managed to beat both of his older brothers and his own father and be named patriarch of the Cromwell Clan. But yeah, nice sob story, still a total asshole. Charles became patriarch by choosing his and the Clan’s success over his own immediate family’s well-being -- deciding to impress his grandfather (the current leader of the Clan) with his extensive magical talent, high ambitions, position at the Ministry, and utter ruthlessness and sabotaging his own brothers (revealing one’s affair with a Muggle and even staging an accident that ended up permanently incapacitating the other so he was forced to stay in St. Mungo’s for the remainder of his life), just to take charge, show up his neglectful father, and lead the Clan toward his vision of glory. One interesting thing to note about Charles, however, is his and his wife Marilyn’s interest in having well-rounded children. Unlike the Malfoys and many other Pureblood families, who are pretty solidly focused on Slytherin’s values of ambition and cleverness, Charles -- despite being a Slytherin himself -- believes strongly in his children embodying ambition, courage, loyalty, and intelligence: so much so that each of his four children ended up in a different Hogwarts house.
