Anyway, we used another avatar maker thingie to make slightly more detailed icons for Heart... They’re genderfluid and generally pretty androgynous so we made two... Really highlights how weird-looking anime girls are, but at least that one let us put on a decent necklace!

Biggest difference though is probably that Heart actually uses the hood, but I hope they’ll still like them!

honestly the way Heart just fucking actually functions is so fucking wild to me and I’m both pissed (envious) and wishing he’d front more like??? if you’re not gonna suffer with the rest of us, could you at least fucking pull your weight and save us from ever having to talk to people???? I know he can’t control it, but damn, I wish

On Heart and wanting to be a hero.

On our walk today, we listened to the big playlist and Hero - Red Pill Mix by Superchick came up while we passed the football field. We haven’t heard this song and barely thought about it since we added it on 2018-02-21 during Harvey’s time and before then, in the early Young Justice era (it was in one of the videos, which we rewatched when we added it). We only listened to it once then, and I just remember that it made whoever fronted feel bad, not why, though it was likely either the angsty examples in the verses or guilt about not being the hero the song urges you to become.

But whatever the past, it had a very different effect on us today. We remembered what happened last time, but wanted to give it a try. To be better.

For each verse, we just listened. Both because we didn’t know a word of the lyrics, but also in some kind of respect. I also think we walked slower. We couldn’t help but visualize the Young Justice characters we thought were in the video or would fit the situation.

But for the chorus, the fronter described feeling strong and a sense of duty as we/he sang along. Artemis was there for a bit to make sure we remembered the lyrics (I don’t know how to explain that, she was just kind of... there).

At the end, I was almost certain Heart was fronting, only he was male and not nonbinary as they previously (vaguely) stated. Whoever he was, he just... He really wanted to “do the right thing.” To be the hero the song told him he could be.

Then, an image of Kid Flash (Wally West, Young Justice) appeared in our mind, seemingly unprompted. When the song was over, there was a discussion on this, but I don’t quite recall much of what was said other than that Heart seemed to imply that might be the form they will take. They pointed out the episode “Coldhearted” (S1E20) and said it wouldn’t be so bad.

We usually never cared for Wally, not any version. Never bothered having any feeling other than “annoying straight boy,” but I guess that could change. It wouldn’t be the first time we dismissed a character for years until forming an actual opinion recognizing them as a complex character with more to them than the most shallow traits our first impression gave us.
