JAE!HEADCANON : language edition
a headcanon that i must heavily stress here is jae’s korean and language skills. even though, he IS fluent in korean, he’s a bit more awkward talking with korean -fluent speakers. due to his childhood and growing up in california where manners aren’t as stressed as they are in korea, he’s often forgetting that he should bow and not be that ‘ chill ‘ when it comes to sunbaes / anyone in need of respect. however, he DOES remember it which makes him grow a bit stiff since he can’t act that natural.
in a group of people, he tends to use colloquial words like ‘ dude ‘ and ‘ bro ‘ and ‘ AWH YEAH MAN! ‘, but one on one with someone he’s not comfortable with, he tends to grow a bit quieter, more polite - but friendly!
he tends to have more comfortable conversation when it comes to people who speak english / has grown up in an english speaking country ( america, england, canada, etc ). there, on the first meeting, he’s able to use his own slang words comfortably, no matter what the age. but that doesn’t mean that he can’t get close to anyone else. he’ll still use his everyday words once he talks to them more and more, especially with the JYP labelmates.
ALSO, his READING and WRITING isn’t the best. he can’t read korean very fast, but is still able to do so. also, he’s still learning how to write. although it is already built up and his vocabulary is huge, since he is still learning, he needs a bit of help with words. he knows how to write them, he just tends to forget from time to time.
he IS learning other languages. MOSTLY: CHINESE AND JAPANESE. he’s been learning chinese for a few years already ( mostly the pinyin + the pronunciation ), but his japanese skills are still developing only knowing basic phrases and greetings.
