Husker keeps the radio low, just loud enough to fill the cabin without drowning out the crackle of the fire. Alastor’s voice slides through the speaker, warm, polished, theatrical as ever, wrapping itself around Christmas Eve like it owns the night.
He leans back in the chair, one arm draped over the side, eyes half-lidded as he listens. It’s strange, he thinks, how a voice can sound so present while the person behind it is nowhere near. He wonders, not for the first time, how lonely a job like that must be. Talking to the whole world while sitting in a room by yourself. Everyone else gathered around trees and tables, laughing with family, while the radio host keeps the night company for people they’ll never see.
He wonders if this was how Alastor spent all his Christmases before he came into the picture.
The thought leaves a quiet ache in his chest.
When the show winds down, Husker gets up and pours the eggnog. He sets the glass on the small table beside Alastor’s favorite couch, just where he’ll see it first. The fire pops softly. The cabin smells like pine and spice and something almost like home.
He doesn’t have to wait long.
The door opens, cold air slipping in with Alastor as he steps inside. Husker looks up to greet him.
"And remember folks to leave out those milk and cookies for old Saint Nick himself!" Came the happy jolly voice on the radio.
"Now i'll be settling down for some Christmas Cheer myself ladies and gents! It's been an honor to have your ear this festive season and I do hope you all have a merry Christmas! This is your lovely host Alastor LaRoche signing off and I'll be seeing you soon~" He'd purr, his voice crackling sweetly.
"May you all have a Merry Christmas Nola! And a very goodnight!"
The broadcast would end then with a happy little jingle then, Husker's cue that his darling would be returning home soon.
As expected the young brunette would make himself back to his cabin, bundled up in a nice burgundy scarf. As he entered, the small man would sigh, tapping shirt off his heels and brushing a hand through his tight chocolate curls. "Daaarling i'm hooooome!" Alastor would call out with a gleeful little wave in greeting.
"Ooooh?" Stepping inside and closing the door, Alastor would stride over to his couch and see the offered eggnog waiting for him. He'd giggle some and pick it up pressing the mug close to his chest in a cradle before bending down and gently kissing the side of Leo's cheek in gratitude. "Always spoiling me, darling. Thank you~" He purred before coming to sit besides Husker by the fire and leaning against him with a pleasant little purr.
