Ever since Amelia got out of rehab and found out about her pregnancy and her baby’s defect she had been taking up a lot of shifts at the hospital. It made her feel better to be at work. She couldn’t help her baby, but she could help her patients. It made it easier for her when she felt needed at work. Being hired at the wellness centre near the hospital Amelia very rarely worked nights, but they needed a neurosurgeon for the night shift and Amelia took it on impulse. It had been a long but relatively stable night at the hospital when the shift finally ended and it was time to go home. Knowing Ryan would leave for work about the same time as Amelia would come home, the fact that she would be completely alone in their apartment scared her. Therefore, she had at the end of her shift invited Lexie over for breakfast (or their dinner) at her apartment. Showing up outside the residents’ lounge Amelia spotted Lexie among the other ones in light blue scrubs. “You ready?”
