Prima Ballerina || Muffy & Karen

Karen headed towards the Alexandria Theatre with a flyer denoting auditions for Romeo and Juliet that very day. She had her duffle bag in tow, carrying her leotard and shoes so she could change upon arrival. Of course, Karen knew joining a ballet production was a huge commitment. She’d be there for several months in preparation for the performances. But that gave her just enough time to pull some money together and be on the road again.
As she approached the building, Karen noted the place was very impressive. Even more so once she entered. It looked like a fine establishment, which beg the question of just how good her fellow dancers, nee competition, would be. Asking one of the hostesses where for directions to the changing room and the stage, she was on her way.
Thankfully the place wasn’t some sort of labyrinth and had a simple enough layout to understand. Karen was able to find the dressing room no problem. There were plenty of other girls there getting ready. Some were chatting with one another and others were already at the ballet barre warming up and doing stretches. Karen took one of the empty lockers and changed into her purple leotard and white slippers. She’d already put her hair into a neat bun atop her head.
Taking her place at the barre, she admired herself in the mirror. She never felt more herself than when she was dressed for dance. After a moment she started doing her stretches and waited for one of the theatre staff to direct them on what to do next.
Karen wasn’t sure how much time had passed when an attendant had come into the room. Long enough that Karen felt confident with footwork and was in the zone, ready to blow the recruiters’ minds. The attendant led them toward the stage and a line of danseurs passed the ballerinas. It looked like the males had auditioned before them. Karen glanced at the procession, wondering which one would be Romeo.
Once on stage, the attendant instructed the girls to perform various moves and a small dance from the play. Karen made sure to be wary of her facial expressions while performing. A lot of inexperienced ballerinas would forget that they’re acting on stage and thus look like the needed to go to the bathroom while trying to nail their moves. Karen performed each stance with precision, gliding across the stage as gracefully as she could, aiming to make the best impression.
