Most people hated the night shift.Your schedule gets thrown out of whack, most of the people you associate with don’t work the same time - so you hardly see them. Whatever the excuses were, Asher never saw them. He was still a fresh face on the scene. His high was being able to save the people of Colyerville as much as he can. Anyway he can try and help he people - especially in a time of chaos that the city has been going through. His captain said it was because he was a fresh face, but if he could save people the pain he went through with his brother, that’s enough for him.
“Ya’ know, some people say that it’s odd to see a person of your color behind the badge instead of protesting it. There’s something to be said about a man like that.”
He was in the locker room, towel over his hips from a shower to wash the day away. The voice threw him for a loop, seeing that he had believed he was the only one still left in the locker room. But it wasn’t a voice from one of his brothers, it was a voice that he had heard plenty of times on the TV. Positioning a “better Coylerville,” while the children were being snatched up left and right.
But what did that fuck care. His wife was banging hot - even if she was fucking half the town behind his back - and his daughter, not only was a snack, but she was getting him more attention from the younger generation. His wet dream came true.
“Listen, Mayor. I don’t mean no disrespect, but I think my skin color and the badge don’t exactly go hand and hand. I’m just trying to keep this town, you, and my people safe. Nothing skin color has to do with any of it.” The young officer said before slipping his shirt on and trying to get back in the shower area so that he could put some pants on. He usually had no shame in public, but this was the mayor, plus the whack ass motherfucker came in here hot with no cause - he didn’t know what he could do next.
The mayor laughed, following behind but leaving him room. Asher ignored him, walking back to his locker, eyeing the man that was following him everywhere before slamming his locker shut - ready to leave for the day. “Want to explain to me why you’re harassing me at my job?” he asked - annoyance in his voice as he swung his gym bag over his shoulder, leaning on his left hip as he waited for an answer.
“Come on now - i’m just pointing out the obvious. Too black for the white kids, too white for the black kids. What did they call you growing up? Oh that’s right, an oreo.” The man smirked, watching Asher tense up at the nickname, but continuing on before a fight broke out. “Listen, kid. Everyone here on the force is in my pocket. I just want to be sure that when I need you - you’ll be there. You’ll be compensated heavily.” he smirked, but before answering, the ignorant bastard turned around and started walking towards the door.
“And what if i don’t want to be in your pocket? I’ll find out this shit all pins back to you.” Asher called out, making the mayor stop in his tracks. A few seconds of silence past before he reached for the door laughing.
“Don’t worry, kid. You’ll be in my pocket whether you like it or not.”
