                             “   nox arron,  19 years old,   i can’t remember what my birthday is.   formally,   toxikinesis.   this means that i can...   specifically manipulate poisons.   i’m also immune to poison.   and before you ask i don’t drink arsenic for a joke.   “   the girl was blunt as ever,   she didn’t particularly care for the social interaction this kind of thing had to include. 

“   how long have you been at the academy  ?   “

                              shoulders rose and fell,   you had never been one to actually attempt to monitor time passing.   seemingly counting on her fingers,   it was a moment before she looked back up.   “   about two weeks.   “ 

“   and how have you found the academy so far   ?   has it helped to develop any of your abilities   ?   if so,   in what way   ?   “

                           “   nothing yet.   it’s only been two weeks though.   “   but you were impatient,   there was a part of you that was losing hope that you were going to be able to do anything to be able to suppress them enough at the right times.   your emotions set it off,   and you had more than enough emotions for three people.   “   i’m only here so i don’t hurt people   -   we’re lucky my dad is even still here now.   “

“   what happened to your dad   ?   “

                           expression turned cold almost immediately.   remembered your mother screaming at you   -   she’d been like you too;   so she was unaffected.   but he was upsetting you,   your presence had be literally poisoning him.   the anger radiating off of you had almost killed him.   after that any freedoms you had were lost,   money having been spent on hospital bills.   and money now wasn’t spent on you.   “   i happened.   but it doesn’t matter;   i’m here so you can stop me from hurting people i shouldn’t.   plus my mom doesn’t like me around anymore so it’s a win   -   win for her.   “

the girl sits ramrod-straight, her hands crossed in her lap. she stares into the camera with grim determination. ❛ my name is alia...mayeux-keralis. ❜ her voice catches on mayeux, as if unused to the sound of it. ❛ i turned eighteen on the 21st of may. as for abilities, i’m a warbringer. it’s— well, as far as i’m concerned, it’s a gene, transmitted through helen of troy’s bloodline. she inherited it from her own mother, nemesis. i used to be able to stir conflict wherever i walked by simply being there. i rid myself of that curse in june of last year, and i believe it’s now under my control. ❜

❛ yeah. ❜ a nervous huff of laughter. ❛ my parents ran it. we were no stark labs, but they did some pretty innovative research in biology and genetics. for gene therapy, new vaccines, i’ll spare you the list. kind of famous, if you’re into that stuff. ❜ ( academy’s note: alia’s parents were NIK KERALIS and LINA MAYEUX, formerly directors of the keralis foundation. keralis and mayeux died in a car crash in 2012. investigations have been made under the suspicion that the crash was no accident, but yielded no results. )

❛ so, i mentioned this warbringer stuff, right ? i found out while going through jason’s files. there’s a whole genealogy of them, dozens of girls whose blood brought about pretty much every big war you can think of, just like helen did for troy. the dossier mentioned a spring in therapne, where i hoped i’d be able to get rid of the curse. i got there on my own, before jason caught up with me and told me what he meant to do. ❜ the girl drew in a shaky breath, but carried on. ❛ it’s pretty insane, to find out your brother wants to use you to cause world war iii. i was on the run until ten months from now, and i joined hoping that you guys could protect me. ❜

❛ i can control my powers, since therapne. i guess the training here just helps me...focus. make it targeted, and decide what exactly i want it to do. listen, it’s not the most useful ability out there, but it’s not the only way i can help. ❜

❛ i’m a bioengineer, sir, or at least the beginnings of one. i can help with tech and biological weapons. if jason can make monsters, then so can i if it’s about fighting him and others like him. ❜ ( academy’s note: alia has been questioned to test her for any remaining loyalty to her brother. we can affirm she will not betray the academy or its principles. )

there’s a pause, the first lengthy sliver of silence since this interview began. ❛ my mom.. disappeared, like a lot of other people did. i wanted to stay with dad, but he didn’t wanna risk it before anyone knew what was going on. so we compromised, he’s out there saving the world and i’m in here learning how to do it just as good. eventually. we argued about it for months, but then this place popped up and it seemed... alright, i guess. ❜

❛ yeah ! he’s great, he’s the coolest person i know. we’ve always been really close. like, i love my mom, but she didn’t really get me for a long time. ❜ she still misses her, still has some sort of hope that she’ll come back.

                            this question was to be expected right   ?   you simply assumed most of the others hadn’t had such simple circumstances that brought them here.   and also what kind of good mother would really abandon her daughter.   “   you mean she didn’t tell you   ?   i should be dead,   so now she thinks that i’m a mistake or i’m cursed.   “   though said with a hint of sarcasm   -   part of you might believe the latter;   from vague memories that dr.   carson passed off as side effects.

                            “   not surprised she didn’t care to mention that part.   yeah,   clinically i was dead for a whole five minutes.   she took me to one of her doctor friends,   dr.   carson,   seems he wanted to try an experiment whilst he was at it.   if you want the science you can go ask him yourself.   “

                             “   well...   i already had reasonable control over what i can do.   i guess now i understand what the limits are,   how far i can push it before it becomes dangerous to me.   it’s not really something that you can understand easily.   “
