Yesterday we dismissed the AR as being the problem since it’s been on the market for 43 years leading up to the “start” of these incidents, and with much less control prior to the first incident. We also dismissed mental health, specifically meds, since that’s is masking a larger underlying issue, so lets look at other issues in detail!!
Is it “big pharma” who are making BILLIONS off of this influx or something else?
We can blame “big pharma” and can point to them as taking advantage of the issue for financial gain. Can we blame them or are they just working to fix a bigger problem? I know many who are able to cope with medications, so if we outlawed them they would be crushed. So the issue is deeper.
What would cause a huge spike in people needing drugs to control emotional issues?
Again I don’t know but maybe there are many underlying issues that are needed to address. What we do know is this is something that has come out of the 50′s when medicine stated to look at helping people through medication. I believe it really started as a honorable effort and is still for the most part, being done to help and not hurt. There is a “but” here and that is what harm is being done rushing products to market? Do we know if there is really the problem with the supply? Do we know why medicine is being used more and more?
I tend to ask more questions that really should be explored rather than saying the AR needs to be regulated.
Was there a sudden change in our food supply?
Think about it when the AR was released in 1964 we got our food for mostly natural sources. If you didn’t eat things quickly they would spoil. Have you ever seen the Youtube video with how long a McDonald;s burger can sit out! Wonder if we are not having mental issues but rather chemical imbalances from the food which are being adjusted by medications.
This could go on for hours, but think about how Monsanto is splicing their Herbivore Round-Up into corn so they can use more Round-Up to increase yields. Are we sacrificing the health of this nation for higher yields and profit? Sure you will not die tomorrow or is a few years, but as with my dad who was exposed to Agent Orange he is on his third round of cancer that ties into his exposure 50 years ago.
It’s being supported a plant based diet, not full on vegan, with natural organic foods is the best for optimum performance and health.
Now does all the chemicals we are being exposed to change our body chemistry to cause mental illness, I don’t know but there is an odd correlation between this and the rise in problems today.
What about families, how has that changed?
I was raised in the 60′s it was very, very rare to have a friend from a split family and almost unknown to have a single family home other then friends who lost fathers in Vietnam. Now kids are in anything from single family homes to split families with two 2-parent homes, to two mommies or two daddies. As much as people don’t like hearing this, the 2 parent home with a mother and father has historically been shown to be the best environment for a child.
Yes those parents need to be engaged but history shows us that is the formula for success. Sure we can point to tons outside the norm, but I am sure they would excel in any family environment they were in.
So do we return to two family homes. Heck the other day I heard someone suggest a “test” in order to be allowed to have children!! Do we really want to limit that freedom?
How about violence in the culture, could that have something to do with it?
I remember when The Godfather came out, they had to edit it to keep it rated R since it was going to be X-Rated. Now that would be considered PG-13, if not PG. Maybe not that extreme, but not too far off.
Now with DVD’s a child can watch a myriad of movies where people are killed. Heck one of the most bloody films I have ever seen, Kill Bill, is considered a comedy. We have made something horrific into “comedy”. What does that say to the truly mentally unstable in society?
Do we lock-em-up? Heck the Quakers had the right answer for mental illness, isolate them to protect society and then give them a loving environment. Throughout history that has been the only model that has worked. And Ronald Reagan opened the doors on the only semblance of that in our society. And look at how things changed.
How about gadgets to interface with people?
Think about our internet debates, it’s almost too easy to trash a friend who does agree with what we say. I have seen more text battles with family because how I worded something was interpreted with different emphasis. Someone with a mental problem could take this to killing to get their point across.
Also, one can sit on the bus and play active shooter games, killing without consequences. What does that do to a mentally unstable person. I can only use my upbringing and how I was a vidi-it using arcade games. The only “active shooter” game i remember was battle zone where i killed other tanks and asteroids where I killed rocks ... or and Galaga where i killed bees. I never had access to a reality based game where it looked like i was killing real people.
Heck, Shark Attack was pulled in the early 80′s because there I was the shark eating scuba divers. WHAT CHANGED?
This has become long winded ... tomorrow we actually DO address gun laws!! And the fact something does need to be done here!

If I Prayed to “Accept Jesus into My Heart,” Is That Enough?
An Article by Matthew Harmon
"The Bible speaks about beginning a relationship with God through Jesus Christ in a variety of ways, so it may come as a surprise that nowhere does Scripture specifically refer to “praying to accept Jesus into your heart.” Instead the Bible emphasizes trust/faith in who Jesus is and what he has done through his death and resurrection. Take, for example, Romans 10:9-10—“if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.”
There is also nothing “magical” about prayer. But it is a natural way of confessing our sins to God and asking the Lord to forgive us because of who Jesus is and what he did on the cross. And since prayer is simply talking to God, it is a vital part of growing in our relationship with God through Jesus Christ.
While it is true that we are saved by faith, we must understand that biblical faith is dynamic. It is far more than simply agreeing with a set of facts about God and Jesus. By its very nature it transforms a person over time, making itself known. It produces evidence (which the Bible often calls “fruit”) in our lives. Let me try to illustrate this:
Imagine we met for coffee one Monday morning at my home. During our conversation, I tell you that a herd of 100 elephants walked through my backyard over the weekend. You would likely find that hard to believe (unless we lived in Africa!). You would be even more skeptical if you looked out at my backyard and didn't see a single footprint or pile of droppings! How could 100 elephants pass through someone's backyard without leaving a single bit of evidence?
On the night Jesus was arrested, he told his disciples that everyone who abides in him will bear fruit (John 15:5). When our faith bears the fruit of good works, it glorifies God (John 15:8). As we continue to trust in the Lord Jesus, the Holy Spirit produces fruit in our lives such as “love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control” (Gal 5:22-23). Put another way, as we see the beauty and glory of Jesus, the Spirit transforms us so that we more clearly reflect the character of Christ (2 Cor 3:18).
Jesus Christ did everything necessary to save us from our sins. He obeyed where we had failed. He suffered the penalty that we deserved for our sins by dying on the cross. He conquered death by rising on the third day. He ascended to the right hand of God the Father and sent his Holy Spirit to dwell in his people. We experience all that Jesus has done for us by faith, a faith that the Spirit uses to make us more like our Lord and Savior."
