Shlama/Shlomo! This past Sunday we commemorated our ACSSU alumni. We were very honoured to have guest speaker Steve Netniss to talk about his book "Potential: The Assyrian Quest For Identity". You can watch the entire speech from the Alumni Event here: https://www.facebook.com/249854728688604/videos/287383701602373/
Thank you to all the alumni who were able to make it! Your hard work and dedication helped shape this organization into what it is today.
Shlama/Shlomo! This week's word is May. With school being over for many university/college students and summer ahead we hope you enjoy this lovely month!
Shlama/Shlomo!
The Word of the Week is dedicated to those being ravaged by the devastating fire in Fort McMurray, Alberta. Our thoughts and prayers are with those who are being affected by this catastrophe.
Shlama/Shlomo!This past Sunday (April 24th), many of our proud ACSSU members as well as other Assyrians, Armenians, and Greeks marched on Parliament Hill to fight for recognition of the Assyrian, Armenian, Greek Genocide of 1915.
In Syriac this atrocity is referred to as Seyfo (sword). Since 2011, April has been designated as Genocide Awareness Month. As the month draws to a close we would like to remember all those who were massacred during Seyfo and the current genocide happening now in Iraq and Syria.
Shlama/Shlomo!
Many of you can relate to today's word; exam. ACSSU would like to wish all you hardworking university and college students good luck on your final exams!
Shlama/Shlomo! It's National Volunteer Week in Canada (April 10th-April 16th 2016). This annual celebration was started in 1943, during World War II, as a way to commemorate the contributions made by women here in Canada. After the war, it dwindled until the 1960's when it began gaining popularity in the United States.
Volunteers are the backbone of ACSSU, from our fundraisers such as LMR, to our University Branches/ACSSU of Canada committees. We appreciate all our hardworking and dedicated volunteers that give their time and effort for the betterment of our community over the years. Thank you for all you do!
*This word is not from Classical Syriac. It is of Persian descent.
