Hello there! We are students at Columbia University’s Teachers College, completing a project that looks at the experience of entertainers with disabilities. In completion of this project, we have drafted a few questions that would benefit from your insight on the field. It would be great if you could share your thoughts/experiences on any or all of these questions with us in order to add depth and insight to our assignment.
Throughout the process of auditions, how have you seen accommodations/discrimination for entertainers with disabilities?
Especially in the world of television, able-bodied actors are often given the role of characters with disabilities. In doing so, what does that say about the perceived ability of actors with disabilities?
How have you seen accommodations for people with disabilities when attending venues of entertainment? How do you think the entertainment world can better accommodate/encourage people with disabilities who attend these performances?
What advice would you give to an aspiring actor with a disability?
If you have any thoughts, or insights for the future that were not touched upon by these questions, please feel free to share!!
Thank you for your time!
