I occasionally see this post on my Tumblr for you page going "if DID is so rare I'm gonna start fakeclaiming redheads" and I don't wanna interact with that poster. But every time I see it I just think,, that happens.
Bodily, we're a redhead. Born like that. Our mother and all 3 of her kids had bright orange hair as soon as it grew (our oldest brother it's darkened to brown now but I've seen his kid pictures, unmistakeably red).
In year 8 (~12 years old) we showed our bus pass (that had a very poor quality 3 year old photo of us, it was taken outside in crap lighting) to our peers. In that photo, our hair looked brown. It was not and never had been brown (in fact it tends to look closer to blond).
For the next year or 2 (none of us remember how long anymore) there was a furious rumour that we dyed our hair. We denied it repeatedly. They refused to believe us. It was frustrating and distressing because we have always had ginger hair (except when we've dyed it, which has only been to blue or green). Some of these people knew us when we were 6 years old and had hair the colour of a traffic cone and still it wouldn't dissipate.
Don't fakeclaim redheads actually. Because people already do that, take it from someone who knows 👍
