Official trans VS fan trans: The Wolf and The Dog
Probably the second best chapter of the fourth book. But definitely the most creepy one.
A major difference is how Adamo describes his stalking of the wolf. In the official translation, he describes it as it has become an art form. In the fan version he compares following her and sniffing her to making a painting.
In the official he wonders if the wolf is warning him to back off or perhaps inviting him.
The official translation dropped the ball here as what Adamo says doesn't make sense. He noticed that it's morning but the says he has been stalking her from morning to night.
In the official translation, the wolf's name is Hwasa which should be Korean for the word "bright" if I understand it correctly. In the fan trans however her name is Fasa which can mean a lot of things, such as being the swedish word for "horror".
I like in the fan trans that Adamo is interrupted in his lovesick puppy mode as he sees Hwasa eating the brain of her chopped up victim, not finishing thinking she is perfect.
The official trans has Hwasa claiming that Adamo probably only did his job as a cop because he enjoyed it and not out of a sense of justice. In the fan version she claims he probably just did it because he is a slave to his instincts.
And finally, we have the official translated Hwasa calling them both failures while fan trans Hwasa calls them slaves to their nature.
