Echoes what-if prompt! I don't know if this will work since we don't know how Sans will wake up yet, but this idea has been stuck in my head.

So far Sans has been mentally incapable of recognizing the truth of his situation until he couldn't escape it with Papyrus being abused. Not just because he is in denial but his own health and mental stability depend on it and he is at risk of falling down.

The what-if situation is that after he passed out from attacking Taylor, his mind finds a way to rearrange the situation and his memories to help save his life. So when Sans wakes up, he recognizes Y/N as being his loving girlfriend and Taylor is the awful roommate.

It's not that he thinks Y/N is Taylor but his mind swapped them entirely, so his mind just fills in the gaps by changing his memories just enough. Something like:

- Taylor is this horrible roommate who has been blackmailing him about the machine but 1 year ago she invited the lovely Y/N to move in and she and Sans started dating (up to you of Sans thinks she's dating the other skeletons or not).

- Sans has been working hard on the machine to fix the situation and end the blackmail but his darling Y/N takes care of him, keeps the house in order, sending Stretch to deliver food him she made, and she was finally able to convince him to talk with Papyrus when he found out that Taylor has been abusing him.

Pretty much all of Sans' interactions with Y/N are rearranged so that he was friendly to Y/N instead of threatening. Of course none of this actually happened and Sans' mind is trying to avoid his soul shattering from the truth that he didn't protect his brother from being abused by someone he willing allowed into his home and was in love with.

So Papyrus pleads with Y/N to let Sans continue to think they are a couple, even if she doesn't actively pretend or lie about it, until Sans recovers enough of his magic and stabilizes. This would be relatively easy except Y/N being the angel she is unintentionally keeps acting like the girlfriend of his dreams. Taking care of everyone, listening to his jokes, cooking him homemade meals, being kind to his brother etc.

Cue hijinks, misunderstandings, and awkward situations.

I actually really like this and am disappointed I didn't actually do this in the fic. But I guess it wouldn't really fit with the story.

I am writing this down and will do it for an Echoes chapter though!

I'm curious, what would have happened in Soulfound if MC was in a different AU? Like her first Soulfound was one of the other skellies and she met that version of Sans instead. (I realize this may end up being spoilers for how she interacts with the big skellies in the actual story. In that case just ignore this Ask.)

I misread this ask like 3 times akdkfkg but yes, that would be pretty spoilery, haha! But ofc, different skeles mean different reactions and situations! ' 7 ` In fact, there probably wouldn't be any other Sanses getting involved depending on which au it is! 😳 Or at least if there were any other Sanses suddenly popping up, it wouldn't be that AU Sans' fault. :'D I hope that made sense- and that it wasn't too spoilery ahsjd

I can't wait to finally introduce the other big skeletons and have them regularly in the story. 😭 I'm sorry if the whole set up seems to be taking so long. 💦 I just dont want things to move too fast. 🥴

he’s doing just fine! i have some sketches of him that i need to finish for the expression meme and once i clear out some more pesky real life business i should be back to writing both star-crossed and beast, so expect to see more of him soon!

If it does turn out to be Grey knocking on the door in Dust Coated, then that means he probably scouted both them and the lodge and decided that the house with highest lv skelie was the safer bet. I'm assuming he saw Angel outside more often at the house than at the lodge, so maybe he made a judgement call to try the house with the nice human. After all, she's so kind to Dust and his high lv. Maybe she'll help him and his brother too.

Also, since they never actually introduced themselves to the lodge, Sans never banned them from leaving the forest. I love the idea of Angel taking Grey on a shopping trip with his beanie cap and having someone from the lodge recognize them from behind thinking it's Dust. Just to have them realize that Angel has befriended a second terrifying skeleton that has near or equal lv to Dust.

Who says is was Grey watching them? :)

But they had scouted the lodge, and Grey did see that little scuffle between Dust and Red.

But you'd be right that Sans wouldn't have banned them from leaving if they did go to Dust and Mc, so they would be able to leave. Ignoring the fact that Dust wasn't allowed to leave either and just ignores those rules all together anyway, and would encourage them to do the same. Also could you imagine their faces if that did happen? It'd be hilarious!

I do love how in the lastest chapter of Dust Coated, Ace, Guns, and G all conclude that Dust is definitely in love after being told that he was doing chores.

The true test of love for either Sans is whether or not he cleans for you.

Honestly, it's any Sans type. If they help you clean, you've really got them wrapped around your finger.

Nothing says "I love you" like helping with chores. To them anyway.

I wouldn't worry about Dust Coated having a rushed beginning. I've been structuring TSM and related offshoots as if it is an otome romance game.

TSM is the main storyline that can end with a friendship route or if you chose a romantic route the story diverges depending on which skelie it is. Mutt's romantic ending is when he chooses to leave the house (They Left). You get Edge if you befriend him before Mutt (Hardened Around the Edges).

Dust is one of the secret romance characters added for the special edition and includes settings with new background art!

Oh, that's cool! Never heard of someone doing that before.

And I'm not worrying as so much annoyed. There's just things that are kind of lost right now because I rushed the beginning. But it's fine, I can work with it.

Oh...oh honey. My darling Sans, you beautiful little fool. You're right that Dust can't be tricked easily but, as of right now, that's one of the few things you don't have in common.

Pfft-!

In all fairness, Dust can spot a manipulator a bit easier than Sans without using the Judge's magic. He's just a bit quicker, and he's been on the outside looking in this whole time too. He's able to see what's going on, unlike Sans who is neck deep in.

Ok it's odd asking for an Echoes prompt of what was originally an Echoes story. (Ignore if this is something that will be coming up in the main story).

For Dust Coated, what was Dust's POV pre-relationship with Angel? I'm curious how he went from:

- Well this human isn't a threat, I don't have to kill her...yet.

- oh this human is actually really kind...it feels nice spending time with them.

- If anything happens to my precious butterfly I will kill everyone here and then myself.

It will be expanded upon in future chapters!

I honestly feel like I published Dust Coated a little too early and didn't flesh out the beginning nearly enough, but I suppose it works out. I can add those scenes in later chapters for bigger effect or something.
