Adelaide “Ade” Vidalis was born in a small nowhere town in a southern state of America, her parents were young, poor and never found love in each other. It was a meek beginning that remained troubled throughout her youth, they found a trailer to call home and even in elementary school, she began to receive teasing for her family’s impoverished state. Dark whispers carried around town about her family, a shadowed reputation that followed her around on the jungle gym and to each class she trudged into. She devoted herself entirely to her schoolwork as it granted her an escape from her home life, she excelled in classes when no one had expected her too. Teachers began to suspect when she would arrive to class with bruises marring and marking her skin. She would wear long sleeve shirts to cover it up even in the summer time. They knew and they never stepped in. When her mother was announced dead, furious whispers began to circulated that it was her mean drunk father that dug her grave. Adelaide was too young to learn the truth and too scared to ask as she grew in years.
She was eight when her powers began to manifest, her father raised a hand to backhand her and dark storm clouds gathered in the sky. A fierce wind picked up and slammed her front door open, a figure stood in the doorframe. It was Anastasia Vidalis, a stranger around these parts but known in Corinth Bay, Greece as the rightful monarch of the legendary coven. She was a fierce mother and even if Ade had yet to learn her name, she viewed the child as her own. Anastasia Vidalis attempted to claim the child that night, spoke the words “She’s coming with me” and there was a craving inside the eight year old to run to the leg of Anastasia, to be in the comfort and protection that this stranger extended to her. Her father gripped Ade’s arm and denied the witch, said that she was staying, that she was his child and the women had no right to interfere. What he didn’t realized was with Anastasia’s powers of premonition that she was trying to save the wasted life that he was. It didn’t matter much to her, she would be flying back home with her daughter and if he was buried six feet under, no one would grieve so she left him with one last warning “This will be the last thing that you will live to regret.” A warning he dismissed and she booked herself an hotel room for the night and waited for the events that were sure to follow.
It didn’t take long to strike ire again in such an angry man, Ade had accidently spilt the beer that she had served him. It dripped off the coffee table and began to stain the carpet as he lifted another hand towards her but it never found strike. For a giant twister swept through the trailer, crinkling the walls as if they were paper, the windows shattered, the couch began to fly around them and it was fierce tornado that hit them, destroying whatever foundation existed of their house. Adelaide screamed and ran, there was a storm cellar on the property and she locked herself within. He never received shelter that afternoon from a twister that seemed to only affect their household, it never travelled across town. She waited down there for hours as her heart which raced came to a steady, slow beat and when the door opened again, it was to a hand offered from the monarch of the Vidalis coven. She promised the child a new life where no one could lift a hand against her and she would provide anything that the child ever desired. Knowing that the child didn’t own anything but the clothes on her back, the tornado had swallowed it all whole and her father was never seen again. They flew back to Corinth that afternoon and it wasn’t long before she was introduced to Daphne Onassis.
The Onassis’s were close friends of the coven and as Ade was introduced to her new siblings, she fell deeper into the life. A salvation in a desperate hour and the water witch matched her darkness in every way, when storm clouds would gather on Ade’s bad days, Daphne was there to soothe it away. Ade helped her in her desperate research that she conducted, knowing but denying that the other was on the brink of a Genasi ritual. She’s her best friend, she’s half in love with the girl but she’s balancing a difficult tightrope with her loyalty to her coven and her devotion to her best friend. Now she spend her days working by Daphne’s side at Asclepius’s Herbs, doing everything she can to be involved in her siblings lives, balancing her school work that gives her escape from her demons that she still hasn’t tamed and praying for the day when her mother wakes up.
